IdeasThere are many ideas that I could do for merchandise for SAS. These products have to link with this campaign I am currently producing work

for, meaning they will need to have a house style.

I have to think about what products SAS already make and what kind of products are surfer could use. It is also important to look into what

some other surf merchandise looks like & where the merchandise will be used. Merchandise can be a useful way to advertise & promote

anything, and we are going to take advantage of this for SAS.

Some products I already have in mind that I could produce are:

• Hats - Surfers may need something to wear on their head to keep the sun of their eyes & face

• Phone cases - This could be a speciality item that is a little bit out their for a charity piece of merchandise but could look interesting with the

blue sea rubbish collage behind it. I am also thinking about a limited edition/run of one product to raise some extra money for SAS, so this

could be a greta opportunity there.

• T-shirts & apparel - This is one of the most common pieces of merchandise for any company. Updated versions of SAS Apparel would sell

well. It is also important to look at colour combinations with the logo. Maybe alter the logo or produce two to add variation to these designs,

compared to the simple regular logo.

• Stickers - Different sized stickers that are waterproof could be used on different surfaces like surfboards and cars to further push the

campaign.

• Postcards - Sometimes people go on holiday to beaches & will send postcards home from the beaches. Selling these in stores on the

beach front and saying some of the profit goes to SAS could be a USP compared to others & has an interesting design.

• Reusable drinking device - A simple water bottle of sorts could be produced & having a selling point that it decreases rubbish on our

beaches.

• Beach ball - A toy of sorts that can be used on the beach itself, again promoting the brand in a relevant place.

• Bucket & spade - Same as above.

• Towel - Can be used at the beach or at home. Useful.

• Posters - Not the same poster that would be found at the beach, this would be a simple design that a child could put on their bedroom wall.

• Bandana - Another piece of apparel, like a hat, that could be worn at the beach by a surfer to keep their hair out of their face.

• Cards - Like a postcard.

• Surfboard - A more expensive piece of merch, although I think this wouldn't work as you would expect surfers to already have a surfboard.

Cheaper alternative would be a sticker, like mentioned above.

• Laptop cases - similar to the phone cases, could be an interesting and simple product that could be limited edition to generate a little bit

more money for the company.

These are just a few products that are made by SAS and are available on their

website to buy. One thing I have noticed about most of these products is that they

usually feature the logo on every single one, in one way or another. For example,

on the dark natural green t-shirt (top middle), you can see they have edited this part

of the logo to look different from the normal logo, as this version is made from

Marine Litter (which is similar to the work I have produced but looks different from

my design). I would like to incorporate my ideas from the poster & membership card

into the merchandise designs.

One idea I had was to make logo have the blue rubbish collage I made appear

behind the logo to act as the waves on this version to add a design change to the

original version.

Modernising some of their products they already have is something I want to look

into with my merchandise. I want to update the cap hats you can see to the left into

snapbacks & add a bandana into the mix as they are quite popular at the moment.

The baseball-style t-shirt is another way to update a ordinary t-shirt & allows the

sleeves to match with the colour of the logo. I also want to produce another logo

that is a less structured version that seems a lot more natural compared to the

original which would make it work with different colours.

A lot of the products directly link with the surfing community and what they would

use themselves whilst on the beach e.g. (to the left) you can see a surfboard rack,

board bag, towel & windbreaker. Whilst these are suitable options to produce a

piece of merch for, I would rather stick to clothing & such that can be used at the

beach & when taken away from the beach. They have examples of these kinds of

products as well, with their water bottles, mugs, cups & of course the clothing.

The first product I am going to make is the t-shirts. These are going to come in two

main logo styles & then in different colours that work with the logos.

The second piece of merch that will be produced is headwear. This will be a hat

(probably a snapback) & a bandana as these are typical for surfers to wear or they

could be tempted to use them as other companies like Sex Wax also produce hats.

The third product is a little out there but could work well & that will be a phone case.

I will use the blue rubbish background with possible variations in the design that I

will look at when producing the phone cases.

These are three main things I will produce but I may have time to look into other

products, I also want to produce a limited edition item.
