The brain is the featured star of this film festival, a meeting point to raise awareness of its different aspects, such as its amazing capabilities and the diseases and conditions that threaten it. This year’s program includes a variety of sessions and new sections, as well as the screening of the shorts selected to compete for the 9th Solé Tura Award and several non-competition feature films.

Five preschool-age children with mental disabilities leave home for the first time to confront a challenge: to go to school. They are going to have to struggle against all manner of new things in
a completely unknown environment: other children and adults, games and meals, behavior and communication. Melgar records and observes caregivers, families and the progress made over a one-year period.

Ron Suskind, a journalist for The Wall Street Journal and Pulitzer Prize-winner, wrote a true-life story in 2014 entitled Life, Animated: A Story of Sidekicks, Heroes and Autism. The book, on which this documentary is based, describes the efforts of his family to normalize Owen, an autistic
boy who manages to live with his condition by adapting the decisions of his life to the animated characters of Disney.

THE MIND IN CULTURE11am Stage show And Who Are You? Creator and performer: Laura Calvet Alzheimer’s is the most common degenerative brain disease in developed countries. It represents the loss of our memory and history as a society. Childhood and old age join forces to find refuge in games and imagination.
12pm Show Magic and Brain: More Than an Illusion Performance by the magician Igor presented by psychologists from the Uszheimer Foundation.The basic tricks, optical illusions and predictive, rote learning, attention processes that the brain activates when viewing a magic trick are presented in a theoretical and practical manner.

WITH ONE’S OWN VOICEA place of encounter that gives voice to the collectives of “touched souls” by a variety of brain conditions, as well as several projects on the socialization and normalization of this condition.Assumpció Malagarriga will inaugurate the space with a talk entitled: The Strength of Touched Souls, to be followed by a presentation of several projects and a roundtable discussion entitled With One’s Own Voice. Cristina Salvador will moderate the table including the paticipation of Assumpció Malagarriga (Associació Superar l’Ictus), Penélope Aguilera (UVic-UCC), Edgar Vinyals (Associació Saräu) and Cristina Astier (UB-EITHealth), as well as Tere Pérez (CCCB) and Sonia Gainza (Apropa Cultura Director).

A film that you can control with your mind. In the near future, the interface between mind and machine has been perfected. Everyone is laced. This 22-minute short film is screened for groups of 6 people. The mental waves of one of these people can change the content every six seconds throughout the film, which means that it has 18 billion possible versions.
