COURSE OVERVIEW

Knowledge is one of the primary products of most organizations, and knowledge sharing, using appropriate methods and tools, can make a vital contribution to making organizations more efficient and innovative, and enhancing collaborative arrangements, partnerships. Web 2.0 is associated with web applications that facilitate participatory information sharing, interoperability, user-centered design, and collaboration on the World Wide Web, and are facilitating knowledge sharing among individuals and organizations. Web 2.0 applications and tools such as social networking sites, blogs, wikis, video sharing sites, hosted services, web applications, mashups and folksonomies are making it possible for individual and organizations to generate, organize, store and share knowledge easily.

THE WORKSHOP

This four-day workshop will introduce you to knowledge sharing methods and tools and equip you with skills in using web 2.0 tools to enhance and improve collaborative work and knowledge sharing within your organization and with stakeholders, facilitate marketing of your products and services, and increase the level of innovation within your organisation.

WORKSHOP VENUE

The venue of the workshop is Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Further information on the venue logistics will be communicated to all confirmed participants at a later date.

COURSE CONTENT AND STRUCTURE

The workshop will be conducted over 4 days (November 29-02 December, 2011). The workshop will comprise lectures delivered in a classroom setting, hands-on exercises, group work and individual practical work.

PARTICIPATION

The course is open to researchers, lecturers, library and information professionals, and graduate students from institutions involved in agricultural and rural development, environmental management and protection, and medical and health sciences. Specifically, participants are expected to come from relevant government ministries, Non-Governmental Organizations, universities and faculties of agriculture/medical and health siencs. The language of instruction is English. It is assumed that all participants have above basic computers skills and the use of the Internet. No basic computer and internet modules will be covered during the workshop.

FUNDING AND FINANCE

This Workshop is being run by ITOCA in partnership with FAO on a self-sponsorship basis. Participants will be responsible for all costs related to their participation in the workshop, including travel to and from the venue and accommodation. However, teas and lunches during breaks will be provided at the venue by the organizers.

Only thirty (30) participants will be invited to attend the Workshop. Therefore we would appreciate if you respond quickly as the available slots will be filled on first-come-first-served basis. An application form is included in this Announcement. Completed application forms with signed authorization should reach the workshop coordinator by October 21, 2011.

ORGANIZERS

The workshop is organized by ITOCA in collaboration with FAO and MUHAS. The Workshop Coordinators will be happy to answer any questions about the workshop or participant attendance.
