I would like to thank all the staff, students and parents who have contributed to a very enjoyable term at Tanilba Bay Public School. I am always impressed with our lovely school, filled with fabulous children, hardworking and dedicated teachers and some very committed parents who help out with P&C, Canteen and in class. The holidays begin Monday 29 th June and school resumes for all students on Tuesday 14 th July. Staff News Sadly we say goodbye to Sarah Schofield this term as she has been successful in gaining a permanent teaching position at Franklin Public School in Tumut. Miss Schofield has been with us as a long term temporary teacher for three years now and has been a highly valued and well liked member of staff during this time. She will be missed by staff, students and parents alike and we wish her well in her new job. Sophie Littler has been employed to teach 4/5S for the remainder of the year. Miss Littler has been working in the school as a casual teacher during the year and will be a great addition to our teaching team. On behalf of our school community I welcome Sophie to TBPS. Athletics Carnival On Tuesday the 23 rd June we held our annual Yrs. 3-6 Athletics Carnival at Mallabula Fields. It was a great day with beautiful weather and everyone enjoyed themselves. It was pleasing to see so many students participate in events and encourage each other to do their best. There were many excellent individual efforts on the day and all students demonstrated outstanding behaviour. Congratulations to Dan Williams who broke the Senior Boys High Jump record which stood for 20 years. I am confident that the new record which is now 1.43 metres will be around for many years to come. It was wonderful to see so many parents attend on the day and support their child/children. Impetigo (school sores) We have had a reported case of Impetigo at school and parents should be on the lookout for the following symptoms - Small red spots which change into blisters that fill with pus and become crusted; usually on the face, hands or scalp. Generally, children affected by Impetigo should stay at home until treatment starts. When children are returning to school all sores should be covered with a watertight dressing. We can help prevent the spread of this infection by encouraging careful hand washing. Behaviour of Students Travelling to and from School Schools and parents have a responsibility to promote appropriate behaviour and the safety of students travelling to and from school. Students have a responsibility to behave in appropriate ways and to ensure both their own safety and that of other students. Students also have a responsibility to meet community, school and parental expectations in this regard. Tanilba Bay Public School students should adhere to our ‘Positive Behaviour for Learning’ expectations when travelling to and from school. Be Safe, Do Your Personal Best, Be Friendly and Be Respectful. There will be consequences for poor behaviour travelling to and from school as per the ‘TBPS Student Welfare Policy’. Teachers will support parents in developing appropriate standards of behaviour for students travelling to and from school and will communicate any concerns to parents as necessary. Have a great weekend and I hope everyone has a safe and happy holiday with their children. Stuart Wylie, Principal Page 1

Thursday, 25 June 2015 Week 10 Term 2

Term 2 has flown by and holidays are here. Believe it or not, school holidays can also be a great opportunity to practice maths skills with your child. Board Games Playing games with the family is a great opportunity to practice math skills! There are so many different board games that involve math skills – these are some of my favourites: Bingo, Snakes and ladders, Uno, Monopoly, Battleship, Yahtzee, Risk. At the end of the day, no matter what board game you play, if you make your child keep track of the score, they will be doing math. Cooking Cooking provides wonderful opportunities to help your child learn mathematical vocabulary. How better to learn phrases like 'more than' or 'less than' than by weighing out ingredients. When it comes to measurement, estimation, proportions, or even simple addition, cooking together is a hands-on way to learn. Calendar of Events

Disco and Mufti Day There will be a Disco and Mufti Day on Friday for all of our respectful, friendly and safe students who always try to do their personal best. Well done to everyone who has achieved this! We have a

special guest DJ on Friday and would like to thank Mr Hughes for making sure that our Disco is lots of fun! All students are to wear warm, appropriate clothing and sensible footwear and the cost for the day is a gold coin donation. Many thanks go to all parents for supporting our school events. Proceeds from Friday will go to the Phoebe Robinson fundraiser. Wishing everyone a very happy, safe and enjoyable school holiday. See you next term! Kind regards, Anne Burr (Disco Coordinator) Goodbye from Miss Schofield. It is with a heavy heart that I write that this is my last week at Tanilba Bay Public school. I have been appointed a position at Franklin Public School in Tumut. I have enjoyed every minute I have been at TBPS. I have loved teaching your children and watching them shine in dancing performances. I have had the amazing opportunity to work with so many of your children and could not be prouder of the results they have produced. I have been so lucky to work in such a caring and supportive school. Thanks you so much to Mr Wylie, Mrs Ashby and all the supportive staff members at TBPS. Thank you to the parents and community for all the assistance and support you have provided me. Most importantly thank you to all the students of TBPS who have made coming to work every day an absolute pleasure. I will miss you all. Love, Sarah Schofield 5D Thank you to everyone for getting involved in the book week parade. The children had a lovely time and we had a lot of different characters in our room.

We have had quite a few special awards handed out this term. Congratulations to Joe Mitchell and Noah Morrison who achieved their Gold and Platinum awards. Kayla Eyb was also well deserving of her Gold award. Isabel and Levi worked hard to achieve their PBL badges.

Thursday, 25 June 2015 Week 10 Term 2

This term the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning about the concept of refugees and the story of Anh Do. They have worked together to create space models, have been very creative with visual literacy and completed art projects related to Australian Identity. I am impressed with the quality work that is being achieved. Enjoy your holidays and see you in Term 3.
