    Jaycees a part of History

June 11, 2006- TheIndependence Ball startedwith the parade of colors one line of America flagsand one line of Philippineflags.

We as Filipino Americanshave a unique perspective.

We have strong ties to theUnited States and yet, we are constantly seeking for ways to learnmore about our Filipino tradition and heritage. Singing the Philippinenational anthem brought together our pride for being Filipinos. Butthe highlight of the evening was the historical skit that the Jayceespresented.

The Sakadas first Filipino-American migrant workers in the US setfoot in Hawaii one hundred years ago. As a special tribute to thisimportant date in Filipino immigration, the Philippine IndependenceDay Committee Inc, (PIDC) invited the Philippine New York Jayceesto present a re-enactment of the Sakadas life in Hawaii during thePhilippine Independence Ball on June 11 at the Sheraton New York. The cast of this cultural/drama presentation, honoring the Sakadas

was a combination of past, current, and future members of the Phil-ippine New York Jaycees. We also collaborated with members ofFilipino American Human Services Inc. (FAHSI,Inc). This presenta-tion was chaired by Ted Martinez (2005 IDVP) and Jude Tan (newmember).

The skit provided the audience a glimpse of the hardships Filipinosendured a century ago when they first arrived in the United States. This presentation gave our members awareness of our heritage, history, culture, and the contribution of the Filipino people in theUnited States.

Branding & Marketing Strategy SeminarNetworking Social (May 17, 2006)

What does it take to be a brand and marketing leader in yourbusiness or non-profit, from the "one man show" to GlobalCorporation? Fred Sullivan, principal of AVdrive Inc.http://www.AVdrive.com, talked about this topic as it applies to

individuals and organizations that are facing the challenges in thecurrent economy of technology innovation, global competition andmarket fragmentation.

Highlights of his presentation were: Our personal mission or goals provide anchor and starting

point whenever we plan to set up a business or lead anorganization.

Having the right brand image is crucial in developingcustomer loyalty.

In essence, our mission should be embodied in our brandpromise. Are you delivering what people expect?

The cycle to achieve brand presence starts with 1)Informing people what your mission or promise is all about.2) Draw people in to know more about your product, mission or promise. 3) Address any issue or concernsthey may have and finally 4) provide support or customerservice throughout the entire customer experience

In building a brand, you must respect people and theirvalues. The emotional aspect of branding is fast becominga crucial component in developing a relationship with acustomer. If the customer is able to see what they cangain from a personalized experience, there is a greaterlikelihood that they will develop greater brand awareness.

Emotional branding must appeal to the five senses of sight, smell, taste, touch and feel. It must also appeal to thekinetic energy within us and must project a certain vibe that

the customer finds appealing. Be authentic, know your product or your organization well. Have a good product Improve your customer service This will lead to a buzz marketing that will take a life of its

own and can lead to creating interest and then brandloyalty.

Many of the concepts that Fred Sullivan spoke about in the realm ofstarting a business is very much applicable to our Jayceeorganization. There is no doubt that we will begin to review ourorganizations brand as we continue all the projects that we haveconducted through the year.

About Fred SullivanSilicon Alley pioneer, Fred Sullivan has had a strong record as anentrepreneur. He founded LiQ, a shopping search engine, in 1998. Thecompany was later sold for $48 million. Hehas consulted on many other technology start-ups,as well as for Fortune 500and Global 1000 companies such as Trammell Crow and SumitomoCorporation.

instrumental in forming apermanent InternationalCriminal Court to trycrimes against humanity.
