Congratulations to Jennifer Castillo for winning the Golden Ticket. Other prizes were won by Gloria Goodwin, Scott Fowler, and Jerry Evert. I’d like to welcome our new Board Members, who have each been elected to a three-year term: Craig Bond, Terry DeBenedictus, Sherry Fletcher, Emily Neve, Karli Newman, and Anne Shaughnessey. Laura Jay will join the Board for a one-year term, taking the seat vacated by Eduardo Millan. Fred Goodhew will assume the role of President and I have no doubt that he’ll do an outstanding job. A resounding applause to those whose terms have ended: Liz Heim, Laureen Pickle, Ted Roche, Barb Ross, and Daena Schweiger. I do have a number of people to thank. First, my appreciation to Jennifer Gilg, Mark Cramer, Roxanne Wach, Daena Schweiger, and Barb Ross for all of their work on our publicity initiatives. Dave Howard gets our newsletter labeled and in the mail every month, Tom Bertino continues to serve as our webmaster, and Gary Emenitove has expertly managed our e-broadcasts. And, of course, I thank the Board for their hard work, enthusiasm, and friendship. It has been an honor and a pleasure to serve as your president for the past two years. I am continually amazed at what we as a community are collectively and consistently able to accomplish. Theatre is important – to us and to the society in which we live. I’ll continue to help promote it, support it, and encourage others to do the same. I hope you will, too.

Notes from the President… and a V-8 by Mary Carrick

Bravo to all of you for a great theatre season on and off stage! As my term on the Board comes to an end, I’d like to give you a snapshot of what we’ve accomplished this year.

Our Get Real! theatre awareness campaign has continued to be a focus of ours. Take note of:

• Our new brochure, which is hot off the press. We’ve updated our look and the contact information of our member theatres. What a great resource and marketing tool!

• Your new Dex phone book on page 1119. Secured completely with trade dollars, our ½ page full-color ad is valued at over $20,000. Thank you to our participating theatres.

• Billboards displayed in Omaha’s mid-town area this year, which featured Echelle Childers, Jennifer Gilg, and Michal Simpson. Look for our next one in the coming months, which will feature Jerry Longe.

• Ads in The Reader outlining catchy reasons to attend live theatre.

• Our TV commercial, which recently hit the airwaves on WOWT. Look for our 30-second spot featuring Erika Hall and J Todd Regan, joined by the voice of Andy Niess. This ad was produced by and will run courtesy of WOWT!

• Our participation in the Great Plains Theatre Conference held just several months ago, which featured numerous local theatre companies and performers. What a great event for our community and we look forward to its return next year! We created a video promoting area theatre that was shown during the conference. It will also be used for speaking engagements and events held throughout the year.

• TAG’s presence at the Day of the Arts held at the Holland Center last fall as well as our participation as Merry Bandits during several Nebraska Shakespeare Festival performances in July.

On the subject of Education, we’ve had a stellar year. We’ve revived our theatre workshop program for members, thanks to a gift from the Bob Roberts Memorial Fund. Look for future announcements on upcoming educational opportunities. We awarded two post-graduate scholarships within the past several months, a new program for us. And, if you didn’t attend the TAG Awards, you missed four exceptional performances by our undergraduate scholarship winners. Thanks to our TAG Night Out program, we were able to award $4,000 in undergraduate scholarships. We have a core group of theatres that make previews available for this purpose time and time again. We deeply appreciate their commitment as we do the monetary support of our members.

Speaking of generosity, our Golden Ticket raffle held during the TAG Awards garnered over $1,100!

An Open Letter to the TAG Board and to the Membership: This issue marks the end of my term on the TAG Board as well as my role as Newsletter Editor for TAGlines. It’s been a great three years! A few words of thanks if you’ll indulge me one last time! To the current TAG Board – thank you for your hard work and dedication to this great organization! You’ve accomplished a great deal and I was extremely proud to be a part of your creative endeavors! Thanks for the ride. To the new board members – the 9AM meetings aren’t so bad as long as people bring great treats! It’s all about the treats… To Mary Carrick (Outgoing President) – Thanks for putting up with my “humor” in the newsletter from time to time (Nancy Drew comes to mind). I hope you didn’t receive TOO many complaints. To Sherry Fletcher (Incoming Newsletter Editor) – Thanks for taking the job! I find a little humor goes a long way toward keeping your sanity (see above). To G – If only we had met in a chat room… <wink> To our Member Theatres – Thanks for your contributions every month. You made my job that much easier. To our Members – Thanks for reading!
