With the score tied at eight, Nady lined a go-ahead single to left field that plated Xavier Avery with two outs in the bottom of the tenth inning. Ear- lier in the frame, Avery reached base on a force out, made it to second on a wild pitch and then advanced to third on a ground out hit by Jus- tin Smoak. Tacoma’s heroics in the tenth inning were made possible after the club posted a four- run rally in the bottom of the eighth. The Rain- iers trailed 8-4 before Michael Saunders belted a bases-loaded double that cleared the way for three runs to score. Corey Hart drove in Michael Saunders with a game-tying triple one batter lat- er. Saunders went four-for-five with two doubles and three RBI. Infielder Chris Taylor turned in the Rainiers other three-hit night after going three- for-five with two runs scored. Reliever Brandon Maurer picked up the win after striking out four in 2.0 shutout innings beginning in the ninth. FREE BASEBALL: The Rainiers played the team’s 11th extra-innings game of the season on Monday – the most played by a Triple-A team in 2014. Four of the Rainiers last five games have gone to extras. Tacoma’s six wins in games that go to extra frames also sit as the second-most tallied by a Triple-A club this season (Pawtucket, 8). NOT DIGGING THE LONG BALL: Rainiers pitch- ers surrendered six home runs in last night’s win – matching the most they have given up since August 6, 2013 against Iowa. Before last night, the Rainiers had given up just seven home runs over their last 14 games. On the other hand, the RedHawks are tied for giving up the fewest home runs in the PCL (54). CLOSE CALLS: Following their third-straight one- run win over the RedHawks on Monday, 12 of Ta- coma’s first 22 games this month have now been decided by one run, including seven of their last ten contests. The Rainiers have gone 7-5 in one- run affairs in June and own a 16-13 overall record in games decided by that margin this season. SWEEPING OKC: With a win tonight, the Rain- iers would record their first series sweep of the RedHawks in more than ten years. A win would also give the Rainiers their second sweep in their last three series. Last night’s win sealed Taco- ma’s second series win against Oklahoma City since 2006. THEFT RATES: Catcher Humberto Quintero threw out both base-runners that attempted to run on him last night and now has thrown out 36 percent (11x30) of base-stealers trying to run. Jesus Sucre is second in all of Triple-A baseball, throwing out 50 percent of would-be base-stealers. As a team, the Rainiers also lead all of Triple-A baseball, throwing out 43 percent of runners attempting to steal. CALL ME, NADY: Xavier Nady’s lone hit yesterday not only drove in the game-winning run, but it also extended his hitting streak to a season-high six games. In his last nine appearances, Nady his hit- ting .318 with three extra-base hits and five RBI. CYCLE FOR SAUDERS: Michael Saunders has now completed all four legs of the cycle in his first four games with Tacoma. The outfielder has hit safely in each game and is hitting .529 (9x17) with four extra-base hits and seven runs driven in. Saunders will be eligible to be activated from Se- attle’s disabled list on June 26. SHOWING HART: Corey Hart’s triple drove in Mi- chael Saunders last night to tie the game in the eighth inning. For Hart it was his first triple since August 14, 2012. REHABBING WITH THE RAINIERS: Outfielders Michael Saunders and Corey Hart and infielder Justin Smoak are all featured on Tacomas roster as part of Major League rehab assignments with the Rainiers. Hart was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a strained left hamstring on May 19, Smoak was placed on the 15-day DL with a strained left quad on June 10 and Saunders went the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation on June 11. GIFT OF GAB-RIEL: Gabriel Noriega collected a pair of hits and drove in a run last night to extend his hit- ting streak to five games (.364/8x22).
