Look at the top right corner of the homepage for Facebook, Twitter and YouTube icons, click and Proton therapy provides excellent chance for prostate cancer cure with minimal risk of side eects Five-year patient outcomes from the University of Florida Proton Therapy Institute The physicians and researchers at the UF Proton Therapy Institute followed hundreds of prostate cancer patients treated with protons for early-, intermediate- and advanced prostate cancer. At five years, 99 percent of men with early and intermediate disease are cancer free, and 76 percent of men with advanced disease are cancer free. 1 The vast majority of men treated with protons reported excellent quality of life following treatment. When choosing a prostate cancer treatment, it is important to consider all the options available. Radiation and surgery are the two most common treatments, if a patient is not a candidate for watchful waiting. Part of the decision-making process is to learn each treatment’s potential for cure (disease control) and for maintaining a good quality of life after treatment. The following table shows the most current prostate cancer patient outcomes data available for both proton therapy and surgery. Five-year patient outcomes from the University of FloridaProton Therapy Institute

The physicians and researchers at the UF Proton Therapy Institutefollowed hundreds of prostate cancer patients treated with protons forearly- intermediate- and advanced prostate cancer At five years 99percent of men with early and intermediate disease are cancer freeand 76 percent of men with advanced disease are cancer free1 Thevast majority of men treated with protons reported excellent quality oflife following treatment

Getting around the UF Health Jacksonville campus just got a lot easierthanks to a generous donation of a six-seater golf cart by Lamar andPatricia Canup They made the donation in honor of their good friendOtt Stephens who recently completed proton therapy for prostatecancer The cart will be used to transport patients to and from othermedical appointments on the UF Health campus To arrange a ridecheck with the patient services team

Looking for a fun way to raise funds and awareness of UFPTI Join usfor an inaugural 5K runwalk taking place April 26 on the scenic

A familiar face among our physician team has moved on to anothercareer opportunity Robert Malyapa MD We appreciate the care andattention he provided to all patients at UFPTI and we wish him all thebest

Moving forward appointments for existing patients and new patientswith head and neck cancer base of skull central nervous system andocular tumors will be with either Ronny Rotondo MD CMFRCPC or Roi Dagan MD MS as attending physician

Dr Rotondo is a radiation oncologist and University of FloridaAssistant Professor who specializes in proton therapy for tumors in thebase of skull spine and central nervous system as well as pediatricmalignancies He is board certified in radiation oncology clinicalpractice in Canada and is board eligible in the United States Prior tojoining the UF Proton Therapy Institute he completed his residencytraining at McGill University in Montreal Canada He completed a oneyear fellowship in proton radiation therapy at the MassachusettsGeneral Hospital - Harvard University primarily focusing on head andneck skull base and spine tumors and also completed two years ofdedicated fellowship training in pediatric proton radiation therapy atthe UF Proton Therapy Institute

Dr Dagan is a radiation oncologist and University of Florida AssistantProfessor who specializes in proton therapy for tumors in the headand neck breast and eye He also directs the UF Metastatic CancerProgram and uses SBRT to treat metastatic lung cancer breast cancerand prostate cancer He is board certified in radiation oncology Priorto joining UF Proton Therapy Institute he completed his residencytraining at the University of Florida and served as the Chief ResidentPhysician in the UF Department of Radiation Oncology His publishedclinical research includes articles on proton therapy and IMRT for headand neck cancer and soft tissue sarcoma among others

It was especiallyheartwarming for examplewhen Santa Claus (aka proton alum Joe McGee) returned to UFPTI inearly January to bring a special cash donation to benefit the UFPTI forthe Children Fund His surprise visit delighted the many children andtheir parents that day They even had a chance to put in an earlyrequest for Christmas 2014 The funds he donated were from theSanta gigs he does throughout the year and especially during theChristmas season Joe lives and works in the Atlanta area so if youneed a Santa during the year give him a shout at his Facebook Page wwwfacebookcomsantajoemcgee or email him atsantajoemcgeegmailcom

A caregiver of one of our patients decorated two lovely child-sizedrocking chairs for the playroom Thank you Carol for this thoughtfulgift that is sure to be a favorite seating choice for our smallestpatients and the envy of our bigger ones

2014 Physician Changes

A familiar face among our physician team has moved on to anothercareer opportunity Robert Malyapa MD We appreciate the care andattention he provided to all patients at UFPTI and we wish him all thebest

Moving forward appointments for existing patients and new patientswith head and neck cancer base of skull central nervous system andocular tumors will be with either Ronny Rotondo MD CMFRCPC or Roi Dagan MD MS as attending physician

Dr Rotondo is a radiation oncologist and University of FloridaAssistant Professor who specializes in proton therapy for tumors in thebase of skull spine and central nervous system as well as pediatricmalignancies He is board certified in radiation oncology clinicalpractice in Canada and is board eligible in the United States Prior tojoining the UF Proton Therapy Institute he completed his residencytraining at McGill University in Montreal Canada He completed a oneyear fellowship in proton radiation therapy at the MassachusettsGeneral Hospital - Harvard University primarily focusing on head andneck skull base and spine tumors and also completed two years ofdedicated fellowship training in pediatric proton radiation therapy atthe UF Proton Therapy Institute

Dr Dagan is a radiation oncologist and University of Florida AssistantProfessor who specializes in proton therapy for tumors in the headand neck breast and eye He also directs the UF Metastatic CancerProgram and uses SBRT to treat metastatic lung cancer breast cancerand prostate cancer He is board certified in radiation oncology Priorto joining UF Proton Therapy Institute he completed his residencytraining at the University of Florida and served as the Chief ResidentPhysician in the UF Department of Radiation Oncology His publishedclinical research includes articles on proton therapy and IMRT for headand neck cancer and soft tissue sarcoma among others
