Glossary

First Time, First Year A student attending any institution for the first time at the undergraduate level. Includes students enrolled in the fallterm who attended college for the first time in the priorsummer term. Also includes students who entered withadvanced standing (college credits earned beforegraduating from high school).

Transfer Student A student entering the institution for the first time but known to have previously attended a postsecondaryinstitution at the same level. (e.g., undergraduate). Thestudent may transfer with or without credit.

First Generation Those incoming students neither of whose parents have earned a four-year college degree.

Nonresident Alien A person who is not a citizen or national of the United States and who is in this country on a visa or temporarybasis.

Race & Ethnicity Self-reported category used to describe groups to whichindividuals belong, identify with or belong in the eyes of

the community. The categories do not denote scientificdefinitions of anthropological origins. A person may becounted in only one group.

Yield Rate The percentage of admitted students who enrolled.

Glossary

Matriculated Student enrolled in a degree program.

Full-Time Student An undergraduate student enrolled in 12 or more creditseach term. A Graduate student enrolled in 6 or morecredits each term.

Continuing Education Those students who are taking credit-bearing courses, but have not been formally admitted to the university.

Continuing Education students may take up to 11.5 credits per semester.

Headcount The number of students regardless of credit load.

FTE Full-time equivalent student. Each full-time student iscounted as one, regardless of how many credits they areenrolled in. The credits taken by all part-time students

are totaled and divided by the minimum number ofcredits required for full-time status (12 for UG, 6 for

GR).

Class Levels Students are classified according to the total number of credits earned, including transfer credits accepted, as follows: First Year - fewer than 24, Sophomore 24-47, Junior 48-71, Senior 72-95, Fifth Year/Senior+ 96 or more.

Nonresident Alien A student who is not a citizen or national of the United States and who is in this country on a visa or temporary
