SchoolwidepositivebehavioursRichmondWestPrimarySchooliscommittedtoprovidingsafe,secureandhighqualitylearninganddevelopmentopportunitiesforeverystudent.Studentscanonlyreachtheirfulleducationalpotentialwhentheyarehappy,healthyandsafeandwhenthereisapositiveschoolculturethatisfairandrespectfultoengageandsupporttheirlearning.Positive and responsible student behaviour is essential to the smooth running of the school, to theachievement of optimal learning opportunities, and to the development of a supportive and cooperativeschool environment. In addition, we believe that shared values help people to live and work together inharmonious ways and can guide them throughout their lives. Appropriate behaviour promotes feelings ofwellbeingandhasapositiveeffectontheworkingenvironmentoftheschool.Toencouragestudentstomakegoodchoicesabouttheirbehaviourandlearning,sixschoolagreementsofferapromptthatcanbeusedbyteachersandstudents.Ticksarerewardedtostudentswhodemonstratethesixschoolagreements.StudentsatRichmondWestPrimarySchoolhavetheirbehaviourrecordedusingaTickanddotchartandwithanemphasisonpositivereinforcement,thechartenablesstudentstomanagetheirbehaviorandmakeappropriatechoiceswiththehelpoftheirclassteacher.Theclasstrackingchartisalsousedinspecialistprograms.

SixSchoolAgreementsInalllearningareasthesearelinkedtoPersonalandCommunalResponsibilitywithinandoutsidetheclassroom.Thesesixschoolagreementsareunderpinnedbyefforttolearningandbehaviorbeingnoticedandrewardedbystaff.

ChineseBilingualandLOTEprogramsTheChinesebilingualprogramprovidesstudentswithopportunitiestoread,writeandcommunicatefluentlyinChinesefromFoundationtoYear6.Studentsareimmersedinthelanguageenvironmentfortwodays.TheVictorianCurriculumincludingliteracy,numeracy,inquiryunitandculturalstudyisdeliveredthroughtheChineselanguage.Intheclassroom,studentsdeveloptheirvocabularyandorallanguageskillsthroughactivitiessuchassinging,usinggestures,roleplaysandgamesinvolvingaskingandansweringquestions.F-2studentswhoareenrolledintheEnglishprogramparticipateinaChineseLOTEclassforonehourperweek.

TheVictorianCurriculumTheVictorianCurriculumF–10setsoutwhateverystudentshouldlearnduringtheirfirstelevenyearsofschooling.Thecurriculumisthecommonsetofknowledgeandskillsrequiredbystudentsforlife-longlearning,socialdevelopmentandactiveandinformedcitizenship.TheVictorianCurriculumF–10incorporatestheAustralianCurriculumandreflectsVictorianprioritiesandstandards.

IndividuallearningAcrossallareasofthecurriculumstudentsdevelopanddemonstratepersonalresponsibilityfortheirlearningsotheycanachievetothebestoftheirabilities.Atthebeginningofthelesson,teachersexplicitlymodelthelearningintentionbeforestudentsengageinindependentpracticeattheirlevel.Togetherwiththeteacher,studentsparticipateinindividualandgroupconferencingtoassesstheirunderstanding,providesupportandsetgoalsforfuturelearning.Byengaginginregularself-reflectionstudentsactivatethemetacognitiveprocess,developtheirindependenceandaremoreaccountablefortheirownlearning.Atschool,studentsdevelopanddemonstrateacollectiveresponsibilitythroughactiveparticipation,seekingassistanceifrequired,exercisingresilience,workingtogetherandcelebratingachievements.

SchoolcouncilandsubcommitteesOverviewofSchoolCouncilGovernmentschoolcouncilsareestablishedforthepurposesoftheEducationandTrainingReformAct2006(Act)andoperateundertheAct,theirconstitutingOrders,theEducationandTrainingReformRegulations2007(Regulations)andGovernmentpolicy.TheobjectiveofSchoolCouncilisto:

ChompersDentalProgramChompersisanoutreachschooldentalprogramforstudentsatRichmondWest.Theprogramisafreeservicethatprovidesdentalscreening,anoralhealthhygienepack,areporttoparentsandfollowuptreatmentintheNorthRichmondCommunityHealthCentreDentalClinicifrequired.FurtherinformationaboutChomperswillbecommunicatedviathenewsletterandonCompass.

ParentvolunteersParentswishingtovolunteerinclassroomsthroughouttheyeararrangethiswiththeteacher.Allparentvolunteersarerequiredtosigninatthefrontofficeandwearalanyardatalltimeswhichalsoincludesyourchild’sclass.

IntroductiontoChildSafeStandards

Victoriahasintroducedcompulsoryminimumstandardsthatwillapplytoorganisationsthatprovideservicesforchildrentohelpprotectchildrenfromallformsofabuse.ThechildsafestandardsformpartoftheVictorianGovernment’sresponsetotheBetrayalofTrustInquiry,resultinginMinisterialOrderNo.870.

RichmondWestPrimarySchooliscommittedtopromotingandprotectingtheinterestsandsafetyofchildren.Wehavezerotoleranceforchildabuse.EveryoneworkingatRichmondWestPrimarySchoolisresponsibleforthecareandprotectionofchildrenandreportinginformationaboutchildabuse.
