T he K2 children went on a field-trip to Mankurd firestation to extend their knowledge

of firefighters. They got a hands-on experience on fire safety and the very important

community helper – the firefighter. They learnt how firefighters use their fire truck in an

emergency. The firefighters showed them the different equipment they use and

demonstrated the use of a fire extinguisher and a water hose. The students were full of

curious questions, which were promptly answered by the firefighters. It was a fun-filled,

informative experience that the children can use to conect to their immediate

environment.

PYP DRAMA ON “RAMAYANA”

T here are countless ways I which you can talk about how language works in a play. As a part of our language week the students of grades 1 and 2 saw the dramatization of the Mythological story “Ramayana”

Through this play they learned why we celebrate Diwali.

Diwali is called the Festival of Lights, and it is celebrated to honor Rama-chandra, the seventh avatar (incarnation of the god Vishnu). It is believed that on this day Rama returned to his people after 14 years of exile during which he fought and won a battle against the demons and the demon king, Ravana. The scenes really struck them so much that they still remember the play weeks after seeing the performance.

PYP GRADE - 3B UOI – HUMAN MIGRATION

A s a part of our learning process, the students of grade 3 got an opportunity to visit the consulate of Indonesia, a visit related to our current UOI – Human Migration.

We were all welcomed in Indonesian style …“Selamat Datang”. We learnt more about Indonesian culture, currency, islands, landforms, festivals, and the reasons people migrate to Indonesia.

Mr. Ringo, the consulate general conducted an interesting quiz. This contest really made our learners recollect on what they learnt during the session. It was a great experience to meet and talk to Indonesian representatives in India. Finally we enjoyed the amazing Indonesian food they served.

It was indeed a memorable experience and our students will surely preserve the knowledge gained through this field trip.

“Terima kasih” (Thank You)

PYP 4TH GRADE EXHIBITION

“Monuments and archaeological pieces serve as testimonies of man's greatness

and establish a dialogue between civilizations showing the extent to which

human beings are linked.” Vicente Fox

T hey say that all good things come to an end. And our Unit of Ancient Civilizations was no exception. To celebrate the end of the Unit and to share their learning with the school community, the 4th graders put up a gallery walk exhibition, showcasing artifacts from the different civilizations they studied for this unit. The children researched different aspects from ancient civilizations and worked really hard to make artifacts related to Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, the Greeks, the Romans, the Chinese, the Incas from Peru, the Aztecs from Mexico, and the aboriginal Australians. The children invited younger students to visit the gallery and listen to interesting stories about how people lived in the past. In the words of Ms. Paminder, our PYP Head, “I could see the depth of their understanding and the enthusiasm they displayed in presenting their work.” And we would also like to quote the words of Mr. Jacob, “That was a revitalization moment! Great job,

well done! The depth of learning was immense. The enthusiasm was unstoppable! The learners enjoyed

what they were doing and demonstrated very deep understanding of the ancient civilization as they truly

exemplified the attributes of the IB Learner profile.”

So from here, there goes a big round of applause for the students of 4th grade! Way to go!

MYP DURING ENGLISH LESSON

My Song by: - Rabindranath Tagore

T his is about the Informal Letter Writing Tasks. A mother writes to her ward in a residential school and who has a few issues settling in and is being bullied too. Also, she attaches the poem My song written by Rabindranath Tagore as a message to console and step up the lost courage in her ward. Ironically, the same day that the ward receives the letter, in the English lessons, they studied that same poem that very same day! The ward replied through a letter, sharing the irony of this whole purpose, not to forget explaining and appreciating the literary aspects that was explained by the English teacher. The informal letter writing tasks were done with great enthusiasm. The twist in the tale was very intriguing! Definitely, these tasks are good enough to prepare us for similar or difficult tasks. The Learner Profiles that we displayed in these tasks were how to be thinkers and inquirers. We really needed to understand the use of the literary techniques and the poet’s choice of words to create an effect on the audience. Our ATL skills like research, thinking and communication got enhanced!
