Dear Parishioners and Friends of Ascension,

With the 125th anniversary celebration of the Parish well underway, several events and initiatives have been proposed that have and will continue to benefit our Church.

One exciting idea was to launch a campaign to dedicate the Church pews in the name of a loved one.

For a gift of $1,250 (which can be paid over a period of time to ensure that every parishioner, irrespective of their financial situation, can participate), Ascension will inscribe a plaque with wording of your choosing, and install the plaque on a pew selected by the Church.

This is a meaningful opportunity to support Ascension while allowing the Church to recognize your gift in a very personal way.

We have included an informational flyer and reservation form inserted into the weekly bulletin that will provide more details for your consideration.

On Tuesday of this past week, we had a very successful kick-off event for our 125th anniversary. Msgr. Shelley gave a very fine talk on his new book on Ascension -- Upper West Side Catholics, followed by a very nice reception. We will have Msgr. Shelley’s book for sale over the next few weekends.

You have my thanks and appreciation for your continued support of Ascension! May God continue to bless us during this special anniversary year!

Queridos Feligreses y Amigos de la Ascensión,

Con la celebración del 125 aniversario de la Parro-quia ya en marcha, unos cuantos eventos e iniciati-vas han sido propuestos que benefician y continua-rán beneficiando nuestra Iglesia.

Una buena idea fue la de lanzar una campaña para dedicar los bancos de la Iglesia en nombre de algún ser querido.

Con una donación de $1,250 (que se podrá pagar por un período de tiempo para asegurar que cada feligrés, sin importar su situación financiera, pueda participar), la Ascensión incribirá una placa con una dedicatioria de su elección y la instalará en un banco seleccionado por la Iglesia.

Esta es una oportunidad muy significativa para apo-yar la Ascensión mientras que le permite a la Iglesia reconocer su donación de una manera muy perso-nal.

Hemos inlcuido un folleto en el boletín con informa-ción y un formulario de reservación el cual proveerá más detalles para su consideración.

Este Martes pasado, tuvimos un muy exitoso evento del lanzamiento de nuestro 125 aniversario. Monse-ñor Shelley condujo una muy buena charla acerca de su nuevo libro acerca de la Ascensión – Upper West Side Catholics (Católicos del Upper West Side) – seguido por una linda recepción. Tendremos el libro de Monseñor Shelley a la venta en la Rectoría durante las próximas semanas.

VETERAN’S DAY

Monday, November 11, is Veterans' Day, a national holi-day. There will be only one Mass at 9AM (bi-lingual), and the Church will be closed for the day after the Mass. The parish office is closed also.

Today Second Collection is taken up for the Military Arch-diocese. The bishops ask us to support the work of the Church among military personnel and their families.

Will be hosting a Christmas bazaar on December 1, Sunday, from 9:00 AM till 3:00 PM IN THE church Center. We will be selling baked goods, crafts, Christmas cards and decora-tions, clothing, and flea market items. Table space is offered to all Ascension Groups for free. The Imagine Society has invited us to share in a fundraiser, playing basketball against other citywide youth groups to raise money for the victims of the hurricane in the Bahamas. Please let me know if you want to play! Also, on November 16 we need help in sponsoring an all day event on mental health first aid, in collaboration with Archcare and Mental Health First Aid USA. I need a few kids to help with hospi-tality/hall monitoring, etc.

La Imagine Society nos ha invitado a participar en una re-caudación de fondos, jugando baloncesto contra otros grupos juveniles de toda la ciudad para recaudar dinero pa-ra las víctimas del huracán en las Bahamas. ¡Avísame si quieres jugar!
