Poreflon®

Industry Leadership

Extruded and expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) was developed by Sumitomo Electric Industries in1960 as an advanced wire and cable insulating material. Possessing superior chemical and thermal resistanceproperties, PTFE ensured the high dielectric strength and long-term physical stability demanded by high performance wire insulation.

Further development revealed that by carefully controlling the base materials and manufacturing processes, a wide range of microporosity and void volumes could be repeatedly and consistently produced. By varyingthe void volume, thickness, open porosity and strength, Poreflon® materials were processed into form factorsoptimized for filter media, moisture barriers, vents, gas diffusers, sealing materials, and a wide range of industrial and bio-technical applications.

After more than 45 years of continuous development, Sumitomo Electric offers the widest range of expandedPTFE performance capabilities.

• Controlled open porosities between 25 & 90%

• Micron ratings of 10µM down to nanofiltration

• Narrow-spread IPA bubble points of 10 to over 470 kPa

• Naturally hydrophobic or with hydrophilic surface modification

• Multiple form factors, including flat sheet, hollow fiber,– pre-configured modules, rope, tape & many others

Japanese quality, global value, local support…

Precision manufactured in Japan, Poreflon® products are sold and distributed in North America throughSumitomo Electric Interconnect Products, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Sumitomo Electric Fine Polymer, Inc.With over 25 years of supply chain experience in electronic and specialty materials industries, SumitomoElectric Interconnect Products has the technical knowledge and delivery expertise to support all aspects ofspecifying Poreflon® technology into your products. Let us add value to your end products, and give you thecompetitive edge you, and your customers demand.

SUPERIOR ADVANCED

Poreflon® Microporous Products

Poreflon® Microporous Membrane

Previously, PTFE filtration membrane was used for its chemical and temperature resistance, at the expense offlow rate and particle retention. Poreflon® PTFE microporous membrane sets new standards in open porosityand narrow pore size distribution. Additional manufacturing processes enhance the strength of the membrane, affording integrity at thinner cross sections, further improving flow and retention characteristics.

Processed from electronics-grade materials to exacting standards, Poreflon® PTFE microporous products offernear-undetectable extractables, trace ionics, and are non-shedding.

• Liquid & gas cartridge filters• Gas transfer membranes• Syringe & laboratory filter devices• Moisture barriers & fabrics• Breather vents• Flow regulators• Instruments & sensors• Dielectric spacers & membranes• Catalyst carrier

Poreflon® Microporous Tube

Poreflon® microporous tube retains all of the advantages of PTFE, with additional processes increasingmechanical strength, to meet a wide range of industrial applications. Low porosity versions are used asencapsulants and dielectrics, while high open porosities are specified to meet the high flow, high strengthdemands of backwashable microfiltration and nanofiltration applications. The chemical resistance and low friction coefficient of PTFE work together to reduce fouling, and lend higher cleaning efficacy in bundledarrays, resulting in lower operating costs over the life of the system.

• Micro and nanofiltration bundle arrays• Ozone & gas dissolution• Longitudinal flow dispersion• Probe insulators• Breather vents• Micro and nanofiltration modules• Membrane bioreactor (MBR) inserts• Precious metal reclaim• Dielectric

STABLE DURABLE

Poreflon® Sealing Products

Poreflon® PT Tape and FT Rope sealants are made of specially processed PTFE, offering superior cleanliness, temperature and chemical resistance. Controlled elongation, high strength and superior uniformity makePoreflon® sealing products quick and easy to use over a broad range of OEM, industrial and consumer applications. Combining the wide chemical and thermal resistance of pure PTFE with high strength and conformability, Poreflon® PT and FT sealants ensure effective gas and liquid sealing in the most demandingapplications.

Poreflon® PT Tape

Offered in multiple roll widths & lengths, Poreflon® PT Tape is the preferred jointsealant for threaded pipe connections. Strong and highly conforming, Poreflon® PTTape seals even poorly cut threads in metal or plastic, and guarantees a leak-proofseal under extreme pressures and temperatures.

• One formula for liquid and gas applications• Stable under extreme temperature and chemical exposure• Pure non-shedding PTFE for ultrapure applications• Non-tearing for ease of installation• Visual tape remaining indicator

Poreflon® FT Rope

Poreflon® FT Rope sealant can replace a wide range of custom-fit gaskets, eliminating the need to stock specific gasket sizes and materials. Made of high-elongation PTFE, Poreflon® FT Rope sealant conforms and compressesbetween the mating surfaces, forming a quick, durable seal.

• Each size covers a wide range of flange diameters• One formula for liquid and gas applications• Stable under extreme temperature and chemical exposure• Precision-controlled elongation and conformity• Available with tack strip to ease installation

All PT and FT sealing products can be supplied to your exact OEM size and shape requirements.

RESISTANT FLEXIBLE

Poreflon® PTFE Hollow Fiber & Filtration Modules

Global water scarcity and environmental concerns are driving a new generation of reclamation technologiesand systems designed to separate fresh water from contaminants. Membrane based separation systems minimizethe need for chemical addition while reducing the number of moving parts and energy-consuming stages.

Membranes used in industrial and municipal treatment systems require precise particle retention characteristics, and must be durable and robust for consistent long-term performance, even after years of backwashing andchemical cleaning.

Poreflon® PTFE hollow fiber sets new standards in flow, durability and strength. Resistant to most wastestreams and cleaning agents, Poreflon® hollow fiber has precisely controlled porosity, allowing optimization tothe suspended solid while maximizing flux. Proprietary manufacturing processes increase mechanicalstrength, ensuring consistent recovery post cleaning, and integral end terminations for the life of the system.

SEIP offers Poreflon® hollow fiber products, in complete assembled modules, or pre-potted bundles to meetyour application needs. Together we can specify the right Poreflon® product for your upcoming or retrofit project.

Internal and External Pressure Modules• Crossflow microfiltration & nanofiltration• Pressurized dead-end MF/NF • Waste water reclaim• UPW & hot UPW filtration• Pharmaceutical & biotech separations• Wide range of vessel configurations

Gas Transfer Modules• Standard & custom ozone dissolution modules• Gas transfer modules• Sparging• All PTFE & NPFA construction• Optimized transfer rates

Submerged Modules• Membrane bioreactor arrays• Gold & semi-precious metal reclaim• Sparging assemblies• Wide range of array hardware materials• Process & design assistance
