the European Higher Education Area under the exclusive authority of the BFUG and its Chairs and Vice-Chairs.”

Employability:• With labour markets increasingly relying on higher skill levels and

transversal competences, higher education should equip students with the advanced knowledge, skills and competences they need throughout their professional lives;

• Employability empowers the individual to fully seize the opportunities in changing labour markets;

• work placements embedded in study programmes as well as on-the-job learning.

Possible mutual benefits from furthering both the EIT educational initiatives and the EHEA consolidation

Pushing EHEA members to allow for joint degrees and to clarify the quality assurance arrangements of such programmes;

Improving the understanding of employers regarding Bologna tools such as learning outcomes, Diploma Supplement or ECTS;

Re-opening the debate on “structured” PhD and post-doctoral programmes;

Strengthening the link between HEIs and society, by providing solutions to global challenges and interacting with other key actors;

Re-position on the EHEA debate agenda themes such as curriculum reform, intellectual property and even governance and funding of HEIs.

Areas that need further consideration

Introducing another incentive for capacity development for only some

of the EHEA member countries;

Continuous assessment of EIT labels and quality enhancement;

Making sure that the EIT educational programmes continue to fulfill all

higher education missions (Council of Europe definition).
