This volume contains papers that were presented at a conference on ‘Attribution’ held in 1977 at the Center for Interdisciplinary Research, University of Bielefeld. They are presented in four sections: 1. History and scope of attribution theory; 2. Attribution of success and failure; 3. Attribution and the affective domain; and 4. KURSUS DER SOZIALPSYCHOLOGIE, edited by M. Me. Darmstadt und Neuwied, Luchterhand, 1978. No. of pages: 624.

This book is a reader in social psychology; the student should have studied an introduction before. This reader can be studied independently of a graduate textbook or can accompany such a textbook. Under each heading: social judgment, social motivation, socialization, social attitudes, social interactions, and applications of social psychological research, four selected reports (24 altogether) of empirical research are offered. The majority of reports are selected from research of (former) co-workers of the editor. The editor introduces all sections by original contributions and combines the single reports into interpretative comments. To foreigners this book may serve as an introduction to experimental research in social psychology in the Federal Republic of Germany, though biased by the selection of the editor.

SYMPATHIE, FREUNDSCHAFT UND EHE: PSYCHOLOGISCHE GRUNDLAGEN ZWISCHENMENSCHLICHER BEZIEHUNGEN, edited by G. Mikula and W. Stroebe. Bern, Huber, 1977. No. of pages: 256.

The eight contributions to this book by attraction researchers from Europe as well as from the United States of America, review and integrate the major theoretical and empirical perspectives in the area of interpersonal attraction. They emphasize the development of attraction in specific relationships and differences in the bases of rewards at different stages during this development. After a brief survey of the field the following topics are discussed: reinforcement models of attraction, equity in intimate relationships, need complementarity, personality similarity. stage theories of relationship development and \tatus-related differences in marital interaction. The book should be useful to

The title of the book was also the theme of a seminar held at the beginning of 1977 in Bologna. The principal contributions to this seminar were delivered by A. Fonzi, E. Ponzo, R. Schaffer and W. COMPORTAMENTO NON VERBALE E COMUNICAZIONE, P. E. Ricci Bitti and S. Cortesi. Bologna, I1 Mulino, 1977. No. of pages: 221.

The authors review rather exhaustively studies on non-verbal communication. Much importance is given to the regulating of interindividual interaction by non-verbal communication, the study of different systems of communication from an interdisciplinary point of view, the links between verbal and non-verbal communication, the mastering and improvement of necessary communication skills, the role of pre-verbal communication in the acquisition of language, the links with some forms of autism in children. The book is interesting not only as a source of information but also because it carefully systematizes a rather heterogenous area of research.
