Setting up Produce/Consume Tags

Create a Producer/Consumer Relationship

30

Architect simplifies the process of tag mapping (also known as creating a

produced and consumed tag relationship)

Mapping tags tells a controller the value of a tag in another controller

In ControlLogix® controllers, the values of tags from one controller (called

the producer) can be used in other controllers (called the consumers)

Producer/Consumer relationship

Create a Producer/Consumer Relationship

Copyright © 2015 Rockwell Automation, Inc. All Rights Reserved.Rockwell Automation TechED 2015 @ROKTechED #ROKTechED

To create this relationship:

The controllers must be on the same Control Hardware Layout

The controllers must have a network connection

The consumer controller must be the owner of the producer controller

Notes:

You can use controller-scoped tags that already exist in your controllers as either produced or consumed tags

These tags do not have to be preset to be produced or consumed in your Logix Designer project

Alternatively, you can create new tags to be produced and consumed using the RSLogix™ Architect software

If you remove a controller from the Control Hardware Layout or the configuration of another controller, all produce/consume tags associated with that controller are also removed

Create a Producer/Consumer Relationship

To create produced and consumed tags in Architect, ensure that you have

completed the following project requirements:

1. Place both the producer and consumer controllers on the same

Layout

2. Create a network connection between the producer and consumer

controllers. In order to do this, connect your Layout. For example:

Create a Producer/Consumer Relationship

3. Ensure that the consumer controller owns the producer controller For example, if you have two controllers on the network trunk, you can establish a produced/consumed

relationship between them if you make the consumer controller the owner of the producer controller as shown in

the following illustration:

Create a Producer/Consumer Relationship

4. After you establish an ownership relationship between controllers, you can

configure tags in the consumer controller to use tags from the producer

controller

Notes: You can bring produced/consumed tag relationships from controller project files into your RSLogix™ Architect

project through RSLogix™ Architect's Synchronization feature

You can synchronize to upgrade a producer controller's version even if it is a higher version than the consumer

controller

The Point Tag feature in the I/O Aliases pane helps you to unify tag values

across Architect, Logix Designer, and third-party software packages (like

Point Tags

42

Before setting up Point Tags and I/O Aliases, the ownership of the I/O

Modules must be configured

Drag the I/O modules and drop them on the controller to establish the

controllers ownership of the modules

When Owner Mode is shown, the

rack will look like this when the

controller is selected

The Controller View will show the
