* A legally valid translation for representation to Brazilian public sectors authorities

* A sworn translation is issued by a professional duly certified as “Tradutor Público e Intérprete Comercial” by the “Junta Comercial” (Business Registering Agency) of their state of residence in Brazil.

* A Public translator is a professional who, on top of complying with a whole series of requirements, was approved in an exam organized by the local “Junta Comercial”

* How to find a Public Translator: -The Business Registering Agency (“Junta Comercial”) provides a list with all the Certified Public Translators with their respective language, addresses and phones.- JUCERJA / ATPrio

* A sworn translation does not give any additional value to the document in its original language.

* The sworn translation of any document does not make it automatically effective in Brazil.

* A sworn translation does not alter its effect, just renders it acceptable before the Brazilian authorities

* The mandatory rates are set by the “JUCERJA” (prices here).

* The rates are set by the “lauda” and depend on:

- the type of document (common or special) - if it is a translation into Portuguese (Tradução) or from Portuguese (versão)

* Consularization is an endorsement by the local Brazilian diplomatic authorities to certify a document as legit.

* It is seldom required on private business documents, such as trade agreements. It is more often related to school documents and especially papers granting powers of attorney to anyone.
