  • SWIS SYMPOSIUM 2015 Presenter Bios and Topic Description Fri. Nov. 13 8:30-9:00

Opening Presentation - Dr. Ken Kinakin and Presenters

1000lbs Squat Demo with Shane Church and live EMG Testing with David Sandler

    Shane Church, Professional Strongman

He started competing in Strongman in Canada in 2007. With nothing to do in the winter, he started competing in Powerlifting and never looked back. Shane currently trains in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada and has personal best lifts of 1036 pound squat, 644 pound bench, and 749 deadlift, and a Canadian record total of 2402 pounds, all in the 242-pound weight class.

David Sandler, MS, CISSN, CSCS*D, RSCC*D, HFD, HFI, FNSCA, FISSN

He has been a consultant and strength and conditioning coach for the past 25 years and has worked with the nations top organizations and some of the worlds best athletes. David is the President of StrengthPro, a training and nutrition consulting group. David is the former Chief Operating Officer (COO) of the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA). David has been the lead exercise and sports physiologist for more than 40 episodes of television for National Geographics series Fight Science, Super Strength, the Science of Steroids, and Impossible Science, and the Emmy Award winning Sport Science series on Fox Sports Network. In addition, David was the Science Advisor and Sports Physiologist for Jesse James is a Dead Man, the series, with Spike TV and has filmed several episodes as the Science Expert for History Channels Stan Lees Superhumans. David is a former powerlifter and three-time U.S. national bench press champion and his research and passion is with strength and power development.

Shane confirmed that he is going to Squat a 1000 Pounds at SWIS Symposium 2015 on November 13, 2015 in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. Yes you read that correctly... Shane is going to Squat a 1000 pounds for everyone at the opening of SWIS 2015. You see, I have been racking my brain as to who to get for a keynote presenter for SWIS 2015, since I have the best in the world presenting at it. So instead of getting another presenter, I want to create an experience for everyone. Most people have never seen a 1000 pound squat and it is incredible to see it live. I saw Lee Moran squat 1003 pounds in 1984, and I was only 30 feet away when he did it at the Senior National Powerlifting Championships in Dayton Ohio. It was incredible and will never forget it.

And we are going to amp it up one better. My good friend David Sandler, who did a lot of EMG testing on the TV show Sport Science, and is also presenting at SWIS 2015, is bringing his Blue Tooth EMG equipment and Shane has agreed to be hooked up to surface electrodes as he is squatting the 1000 pounds. We are going to hook up David's computer to a projector and you will see in real time which muscles fire and how much when Shane is squatting. This has never been done before and will be incredible to see what muscles fire and how much with this weight. This will be history making research and you have to be there live to experience it.
