Families are encouraged to belong to and participate in New Zealand Suzuki Institute activities. 2. Tuition is offered in piano, violin, viola, cello, flute and guitar. 3. Beginners require 30-minute lessons weekly, and attend regular Suzuki group lessons. 4. The Associate Director of Music monitors standards and any concerns should be directed to her as well as to the teacher concerned. Fees and conditions are set by the Music Department (see Fees & Conditions, next page). 5. Lessons occur at the same time each week but the College timetable rotates over ten days. 6. Lessons are generally held during school time and it is only possible for a limited number of students to be taught outside class time. This occurs at the discretion of the individual teacher and preference is given to Year 11 to Year 13 students. 7. Students may not take lessons on more than two instruments during class time. 8. Please use your teacher’s contact numbers and/or email to leave messages concerning lessons. A copy can be sent to [email protected] 9. Students may continue to learn using the Suzuki Method through to Year 13 and beyond.

FEES AND CONDITIONS

Terms of Enrolment

Students are expected to be enrolled for a full year. The arrangement is essentially between the parent/guardian and the teacher.

Payment (+ GST if applicable)• 30 minute lesson $38.25 • 45 minute lesson $57.38• 60 minute lesson $76.50• 30 minutes shared $45.00• 45 minutes shared $67.50 • 60 minutes shared $90.00

A minimum number of lessons each term will be charged, regardless of the student’s attendance. For 2016 the term minimums will be: • Term 1 - 10 lessons • Term 2 - 9 lessons • Term 3 - 8 lessons • Term 4 - 7 lessons

• Parent/guardian pay invoices supplied directly by the teacher. Teachers may invoice in advance by the term or half-year.

• Parent/guardian may terminate the arrangement part way through the year by giving four lessons’ written notice to the teacher. Teachers should be informed as to whether or not the student will attend the four final lessons. However, they are chargeable irrespective of attendance by the student.

• Any costs incurred in collection of debt for unpaid fees shall be borne by the parent/guardian.

Lessons missed by studentsIf a student is unable to attend a lesson for any reason (such as illness, College trip, exams etc) the teacher must be notified directly (not via Reception) by 7:00am on the day of the lesson at the latest, or the lesson will be charged.

Lessons missed by students will not necessarily be made up.

Lessons missed by teachersIn the event of a teacher being unavailable to attend (due to illness, public holidays, teacher-only days, etc.), the lesson will be made up or the minimum adjusted accordingly.

KahunuiYear 10 students spend four weeks at the College’s remote campus, Kahunui. Lessons will be made up throughout the year by negotiation between teacher and student.

Year 1 - 13 Lesson Times Restrictions Apply

The following year groups may have lessons at the following times:

• Year 1 from Term 3 onwards (unless lessons are already in progress). Lessons during afternoon from 1.00pm.

• Year 2 and 3 lessons after midday.• Year 4 and 6 lessons after 10.15am.• Year 7 and 8 as negotiated with Head of

Middle School.• Year 9-13 Wednesday, Tutor Group time

10.15 - 10.50am.

PERFORMERS’ EVENINGSOffered each term, Performers’ Evenings are informal occasions for any student to gain performance experience. Participation is on application. All welcome.

SUZUKI STAFFPIANOFleur Chee, BMus (Hons), LTCL, AIRMT. A registered Suzuki piano teacher and teacher trainer. Fleur runs a home and school studio incorporating both individual and group lessons with an aim to develop the whole child. A regular tutor at Suzuki camps and workshops, and an experienced Suzuki parent.

Elizabeth Lau, BMus (Perf., 1st Class Hons) An active professional musician in NZ. Teaches both the Suzuki method and conventional method. Private teacher at all levels; experienced accompanist and tutor at Suzuki workshops and conferences across Australasia. Elizabeth is a freelance conductor, performer on double bass and piano. She is Music Director and Conductor of Wairua Sinfonietta, Deputy Music Director of Auckland Choral, and Guest Conductor in Bach Musica.

Eileen Moy, BMus, ATCL, AIRMT, BPharm. Over 20 years of teaching experience with the Suzuki method and teaches children as young as 2½ - 3 years old with the Suzuki method. As well as teaching at St Cuthbert’s, Eileen has a private studio teaching theory, and traditional and Suzuki piano. She has taught in workshops and run group and theory classes.

Hazel Roggen, BMus, LTCL, AIRMT, Suzuki 3, Orff 4, Kodaly Sec. 1. An experienced Suzuki method teacher and parent of professional musicians. Private teacher at all levels, tutor at workshops in NZ/Australia, piano studies in South Africa and Switzerland, traditional piano pedagogy with Heidi Harry. Graduate of Auckland University, postgraduate studies in Music Education through University of Waikato.

VIOLIN AND VIOLAAlison Salmons, BMus (Perf., Hons), DipTchg Music, STCA Intermediate.Alison graduated from Victoria University with a performance music degree in 1995 and completed a diploma of music teaching in 2007. She is also a trained Suzuki music teacher. She teaches both traditional and Suzuki violin and viola and plays baroque viola with NZ Barok.

CELLOMargaret Cooke, BMus, LRSM. Graduate of Otago University, postgraduate studies in London with Christopher Bunting and Jennifer Ward-Clarke. Suzuki method teacher for 20 years. Taught throughout NZ and Australia. Also tutors Baroque Cello at the University of Auckland.

FLUTESally Tibbles, MMus (1st Class Hons), DipTchg, Kodaly Level 1 Primary and Secondary, Orff Level 4, Suzuki Flute Level 4 and Level 1 ECE, Suzuki Teacher Trainer. Sally Tibbles is acknowledged as a leading performer and Music Educator. She is a Suzuki Flute teacher trainer and has qualifications in Orff and Kodaly Pedagogies. She performs with NZ Barok and The Age of Discovery and teaches Baroque Flute and Studio Pedagogy at the University of Auckland’s School of Music. Sally is Associate Director of Music at the College.

Vicky Williams, Registered Suzuki Flute Teacher, ATCL. Vicky has over 10 years’ teaching experience with the Suzuki Method, both privately and in schools. She is also a Suzuki parent to two girls.

GUITARJohn Flameling, BMus (Perf.), LTCL, AIRMT. Graduate of Auckland University, over 25 years’ teaching experience, both in schools and privately. Also teaches privately at all levels and is a Suzuki method teacher.
