It is hoped that the ambassadors will help STP leaders to consider the environmental and social sustainability of new plans rather than just financial sustainability, in order to help shape localisation, devolution and community led approaches to the current transformational change agenda. The current 19 ambassadors were recruited over the last year and have been provided with a programme of leadership development. These ambassadors all have an existing role in health or social care and were chosen primarily for their understanding of the three dimensions of sustainability (financial, environmental and social), their commitment to this and their ability to communicate with and engage others. Rachel is working on a pathology optimisation project which could make significant savings in terms of carbon, money, and staff and patient time. She is particularly interested in how working towards greater environmental sustainability can lead to better patient care and staff wellbeing. As a medical student, Deana was president of the Cambridge University Medical Humanities society which ran interdisciplinary events exploring the boundary between the arts and the sciences. Deana has trained as a health coach and has also helped to set up a small educational farm in Kent.
