Triboconditioning®

Triboconditioned parts demonstrate less running-in wear during early life and preserve better surface integrity over the entire service life when compared to regular components.

Surface properties• Creates an optimized plateau-like surface roughness profile • Compressive stress effect depth approximately 10 um• Improved post-running-in surface integrity• Tribofilm thickness approximately 100 nm

Benefits• Reduced friction and wear• Improved scuffing, pitting, and rolling fatigue resistance• Simple and robust: Can run on standard turning, honing and milling machines• Cost-efficient

Triboconditioning® is a mechanochemical surface finishing process used for improving the tribological properties of mechanical components made of steel or cast iron.

The process combines elements of mechanical burnishing of the component surface with tribochemical deposition of a low-friction tribofilm. Hereby, the running-in behavior of treated components are improved and useful service life extended. Furthermore, treatment conditions can be optimized for each component individually, offering a high degree of design flexibility.
