Surah Ar-Rahman (Ayah 29-30) Class 6 -‐‑ March 23, 2013
Introduction In Surah Ar-‐‑Rahman we can know about Allah through his blessings and through all that Allah bestowed on his creation. In the previous class we learnt that only the face of Allah will remain. He is The Owner of Honor and Majesty. Everything except Allah will perish. All deeds that are not for the sake of Allah will perish and only those deeds that are done for the sake of Allah will remain.. This is how we see justice, as Allah is the only Provider and so why should the human being worship any thing other than Allah In all the Ayat in Surah Rahman we can see Allah’s Rahmah.

. In this Ayah we will see the actions of Allah and that of his creation. First human’s action toward Allah is mentioned and then in the same Ayah we see Allah’s action. All our life is under Allah’s control. Even when people move it is because Allah allowed them – he brought the means to the people like power and strength. Sometimes we do actions that we are not even aware of, this is for true for everyone, who is dwelling on the earth and heavens. This includes people and Jinn and also all the inhabitants of the heaven and in the earth.
What is the general action for all of them?
means “Ask Him” Here it means asking Allah. This means everyone is in need of Allah and Allah is يیَۡسـَٴٔلهُھُ the most rich. From among the people the believers know about Allah so they will ask Allah but what about Atheist? will the Atheist also ask Allah ? Maybe not in time of ease but in time of difficulty or at time just before death? There will come a time when they will ask Allah. Here Allah is describing whoever is on the heaven or earth is asking Allah. Everyone is poor to Allah and He is the most rich.
Whether the people know or they don’t know they ask Allah
Who ask Allah?
َوٲتتِ ـٰ َم ”means “within the heaven َمن فِى ٱٱلسَّWe think it is the inhabitants of earth who ask Allah but in this Ayah, Allah start with inhabitants of the heaven i.e. angels. The angels are asking Allah. The angels are worshiping and glorifying Allah. They don’t have personal needs. Allah gives them the ability to carry out the commandments of Allah. They are only created to carry out his commandments. Still the angels ask Allah. Now we will see what is it that the angels ask?

1.Angels who are carriers of the throne: Surah Ghafir (Surah 40) Ayah 7 till Ayah 9
The Angels who are carriers of the throne are carrying Allah’s Arsh. These angels are asking for forgiveness of the believers. The more we increase our faith, the more the carriers of the throne will ask for forgiveness for us. These angels ask for our forgiveness because of our belief. Belief is an action of the heart. When we read one Ayah and it makes us to know about Allah and we believe without a doubt, this is the belief. When we talk about Day of Judgment and our heart believes without any doubt, this is the belief. It is just in the heart. The belief makes us do actions out of fear, hope and love.
It is said in Surah Ghafar Ayah 7-‐‑9 that the angels of the carriers of the throne say “O Allah your mercy and knowledge encompasses everything”. Allah’s forgiveness and knowledge goes everywhere. Nothing can exist without his Rahmah and forgiveness. Basically the angles are making Dua and attributing Allah with perfections. The angels ask for forgiveness for those who repent to Allah.

The angels say “O Allah you know everything so forgive those who are repenting and follow your way and protect them from the punishment of hellfire. O Allah make them to dwell in Eden Paradise, which you promised them, and also whoever was righteous among their forefathers, their partners and their offspring. You are the Almighty and the All wise.” The angels make Dua for everyone who is connected to the believer to make all of them together in paradise.
Further the angels say “ O Allah, And protect them from the evil consequences of their deeds. And he whom You protect from evil consequences that Day -‐‑ You will have given him mercy. And that is the great attainment.” The angels are praying to Allah to not make the believer fall in sins. Even if he goes to sin, to not make him commit the sin.
This is Dua of the angels who are the carriers of Allah’s Arsh. So what do we need to do in order to get this Dua?
1. Believe 2. Repent
We need to do both i.e. believe and repent. We need to know more about Allah, do more worship, ask Allah to increase our faith and also to repent to Allah. We should not persist in sins. If we do all this then angels will make the Dua as Allah has assigned this job to the angels. We don’t know what will make us to go to Paradise; maybe it will not be because of our Dua but Dua of angels. Allah allowed the angels who are carriers of the throne to make Dua for the believers.
2.Angels of study circle: There are others angels who make Dua. These are angels for study circles gatherings.
Found in: 40 Hadith Qudsi Hadith no: 14 Narrated: Abu Huraira from the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), who said: "ʺAllah (glorified and exalted be He) has supernumerary angels who travel about seeking out gatherings in which Allah'ʹs name is being invoked: they sit with them and fold their wings round each other, filling in that which is between them and between the lowest heaven. When [the people in the gathering] depart, [the angels] ascend and rise up to heaven."ʺ He (the Prophet -‐‑ peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "ʺThen Allah (mighty and sublime be He) asks them -‐‑ [though] He is most knowing about them: 'ʹFrom where have you come?'ʹ And they say: 'ʹWe have come from some servants of Yours on Earth: they were glorifying You (Subhana llah), exalting you (Allahu akbar), witnessing that there is no god but You (La ilaha illa llah), praising You (Al-‐‑Hamdu lillah), and asking [favours] of You.'ʹ He says: 'ʹAnd what do they ask of Me?'ʹ They say: 'ʹThey ask of You Your Paradise.'ʹ He says: 'ʹAnd have they seen My Paradise?'ʹ They say: 'ʹNo, O Lord.'ʹ He says: 'ʹAnd how would it be were they to have seen My Paradise!'ʹ They say: 'ʹAnd they ask protection of You.'ʹ He says: 'ʹFrom what do they ask protection of Me?'ʹ They say: 'ʹFrom Your Hell-‐‑fire, O Lord.'ʹ He says: 'ʹAnd have they seen My Hell-‐‑fire?'ʹ They say: 'ʹNo.'ʹ He says: 'ʹAnd how would it be were they to have seen My Hell-‐‑fire!'ʹ They say: 'ʹAnd they

ask for Your forgiveness.'ʹ"ʺ He (the Prophet -‐‑ peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "ʺThen He says: 'ʹI have forgiven them and I have bestowed upon them what they have asked for, and I have granted them sanctuary from that from which they asked protection.'ʹ"ʺ He (the Prophet -‐‑ peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "ʺThey say: 'ʹO Lord, among then is So-‐‑and-‐‑so, a much sinning servant, who was merely passing by and sat down with them.'ʹ"ʺ He (the Prophet -‐‑ peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "ʺAnd He says: 'ʹAnd to him [too] I have given forgiveness: he who sits with such people shall not suffer.'ʹ"ʺ It was related by Muslim (also by al-‐‑Bukhari, at-‐‑Tirmidhi, and an-‐‑Nasa'ʹi).
3.Angels with us during sleep: Other angels who make Dua are the one who are with us when we sleep in state of purification (in state of Wudhu). Every time we turn the angels make Dua
ٱٱۡألَ رۡرضضِ فِى means “ in the earth”. This means all the creation we can find on the earth is asking Allah. Here we will just focus on humans although everything on earth is glorifying Allah.

سسؤؤؤاالل أأهھھھلل ااالررضضض
The world has different people, all of them are asking Allah. All the people are asking Allah in two different ways. There are no exceptions. Everyone is asking Allah.
1. First type of asking is called سؤاالل االمقالل 2. Second type of asking is called لحاللسؤاالل اا
All of the people are asking Allah constantly. There are two forms of asking. One is a question which is
very apparent and is asked verbally i.e. A person who ask Allah by words. Who is the one سؤاالل االمقاللasking .This is the believer. The believer is asking Allah all the time, whether he has a need or not ? االمقاللThe Dua is a part of the believer’s life style as he knows that Dua is worship and that Allah loves when we supplicate to him. The more a person knows about Allah the more he makes Dua to Allah.
Now سؤاالل االمقالل is of two types:
1. Believer: He asks Allah all the time. He always feels in need. He asks Allah in time of difficulty and n time of ease. This is because he enjoys making Dua and asking Allah. He enjoys the closeness to Allah. There is a hadith that Allah likes when we are asking him. When we don’t ask it is as if we feel self-‐‑sufficient. Allah will ofcourse respond to the Dua but our focus should not be the answer of the Dua but the Dua itself.
2. Disbeliever/Kafir: The disbeliever does not believe in Allah e.g. an Atheist does not believe in Allah but even he will ask Allah in case of extreme difficulty. At that time he will be sincere in their Dua as Allah mentions in the Quran.
For which Dua will Allah give the reward? For the believer’s Dua because Allah loves that when the believer knows that no one can give him but Allah. Allah will also respond to Kafir’s Dua and give him in the Duniya but on the Day of Judgment the disbeliever will not get any reward as he makes Dua for his need. His response comes quickly as Allah does not even want to hear him.
Allah is initiating the needs so our heart will be soft and we ask Allah. Sometimes even the believer does not ask in time of ease. This is still better than the case of the disbeliever. Some needs Allah initiates as when we have needs then our heart becomes soft and the obedience, innvocations, supplications come. Allah puts the believer in a difficult situation, as he wants to hear the voice of the believer

Now لحاللسؤاالل اا
لحاللاا means condition. This includes people, animals and everyone. All the creation on the earth need food, happiness, sun, rain etc. Every being on the earth needs blood circulation, respiration, digestive system etc. These are things we don’t ask but Allah gives us. Sometimes our condition is such that even without our asking Allah knows that we are in need.
لحاللسؤاالل اا depends on our situation. Allah sees our situation and gives us even though we did not ask but it is something we need. Allah knows best what we need and he gives us according to our situation.
There is a hadith that if all the humanity standing on a mountain and ask Allah simultaneously, Allah will hear each one and respond accordingly. Allah responds to each person as a special person. Therefore we should only ask Allah. We should think of our relationship with only Allah. This is La illa ha illala. The more we have taqwa and faith the more special Allah will treat us.
Now the above was actions of humans. None is self sufficient from Allah. We cannot exclude anyone. If everyone is asking Allah then why should we ask other humans? We should only ask Allah. With Allah we don’t need any appointment. Why do we feel the need to go to anyone to make Dua? Every body is the same so we should we ask only Allah.
Now we will see the second part, which is Allah’s action.
”means “every ُكلَّ
”means “day يیَۡوممٍ
”means “He هھھھُوَ

”means “in فِى
”means “affairs/duty َشۡأنٍن۬۟ All dominion and kingdom belongs to Allah. Even for a small thing as an atom Allah knows what that atom wants and what its needs are. Here in this Ayah we are told that everyday Allah has some matters or affairs. This is where we can find the decree of Allah. For different people we can find different decrees. Allah will enrich someone and someone will be made poor. Someone sick will become healthy and something healthy will get sick. Someone who is ignorant will be guided. Someone who is scared, Allah will give him security. This means that whatever Allah does for his creation is not random but it is based on knowledge and wisdom. If someone becomes poor its not that Allah is unjust with him but infact it is good for him and good for the universe. There is wisdom behind everything that happens. When you lose something or face any loss it happens for a reason. Allah is the only one disposing the affairs. Allah plans and disposes the affairs of our life. This is a blessing from Allah that Allah takes care of our affairs. Majority of our life Allah is taking care of so why do we stress about little things that we are given the responsibility of. Allah gave us the will. Allah gives us some things to take care of. This is not to cause us stress but so that we rely on Allah and He gives us the reward. Our job is to do our work and our heart should rely on Allah.
Now think about good doer and sinner. Allah has different ways to deal with the good doer and the sinner. Allah disposes the affairs of good doer in a different manner than that of sinner. Allah will give more incase of good doer. As for the sinner, Allah will discipline, nurture, bring more guidance to him and also make him go through difficult time so he repents. For some people guidance comes in different ways and for others it is different.
