HOW THE OFFICE DEPOT SUPPLY CHAIN DIVERSITY PROGRAM WORKS

Since the inception of our Corporate Supply Chain Diversity Program, it has been our goal toincrease our business partnerships with Historically Underutilized Businesses (HUBs). We’recontinuing to improve our process through partnerships with the National Minority SupplierDevelopment Council (NMSDC), the Women’s Business Enterprise National Council (WBENC), theSmall Business Administration (SBA), the National Industries for the Blind (NIB), the NationalIndustries for the Severely Handicapped (NISH), and other organizations that share our commongoal of improving the economic development of the communities in which we live and serve.Additionally, our General Services Administration (GSA) catalog supports national legislationknown as the Javits-Wagner-O’Day Act (JWOD). The catalog’s comprehensive source ofproducts makes it easy for government agencies to comply with the mandate, which requiresselect products and services to be purchased at reasonable prices from companies that employpeople who are blind or severely disabled. Our determination to constantly improve the industrialclimate, economic growth and development of our communities has only strengthened with theformation of the Supply Chain Diversity Program . To facilitate our commitment, we’ve createda plan that is organized into five key areas to ensure its success:

Seek: As a national corporate member of the NMSDC and WBENC and a partner of the SBA,Office Depot attends numerous regional and national business expos, business card exchanges, and seminars, to identify potential suppliers for our Supply Chain Diversity Program.Offer: We ensure that all businesses have equal opportunity in the supplier selection process. We remove the question of who to contact by offering direct access to a single division forsuppliers interested in providing Office Depot with products or services.Partner: By building on existing strengths of Office Depot and our HUBs, we meet ourcustomers’ needs, and these strong supplier partnerships essentially make business better for everyone.Market: We believe marketing is the key to success for every business. At Office Depot, weunderstand how difficult it is for small companies to get national exposure, or the rightexposure for their company and their products. Towards that end, we highlight the products wepurchase from HUBs in our full-line national catalogs. We also promote our vendor partnersthrough “Vendor in the Spotlight” advertisements in publications such as Minority BusinessEntrepreneur Magazine, Hispanic Network and Magazine, Minority Business News, Minorities &Women in Business and Women’s Enterprise.Empower: Ultimately, the goal of the Supply Chain Diversity Program is to empower thecompanies we work with by raising their capabilities and making them the best source fromwhich to buy. Making a HUB partner the best means more than empowerment; it also meansmoney, both of which we’ve always provided to our business partners.
