Working With Your SI Instructor

•SI sessions are only part of your work as an SI Leader. You are also required to meet with your professor regularly.

•Your budgeted hours for SI include one hour of planning every week. You should include the time spent with your instructor under “planning”.

•Planning also includes any time you spend reviewing class content or preparing handouts or study guides for your students.

Faculty/Leader Agreement• Faculty – Leader Agreement• Faculty – Leader cooperation is essential for a successful SI program; cooperation is best facilitated by clear

expectations. Please read the expectations for faculty and leaders below, and sign to indicate your agreement.• Leaders are expected to:• Act as a model student

▫ Be punctual and non-disruptive▫ Have all requisite course materials▫ Take lecture notes▫ Complete all assigned reading

• Maintain an active and visible presence in the course▫ Make periodic, in-class announcements to relate session information▫ Distribute occasional handouts and/or promotional materials to students

• Communicate clearly and frequently with the course instructor• Maintain the confidentiality of both faculty and student correspondence• Maintain the standards and boundaries of the SI Program

▫ Create relevant, useful session plans that emphasize academic skills▫ Avoid using sessions for group tutoring▫ Inform the SI office or Coordinator as soon as possible if there is any difficulty with a student ▫ SI sessions are voluntary and SI Leaders should maintain student confidentiality when working with the course

CONFIDENTIALITY AGREEMENT

As an employee of San Joaquin Delta College you may have access to confidential information such as grades, student and/or tutor records, test results, student progress in class, and similar data. You may also have verbal or written communication with students’ instructors and staff of the College that should remain confidential. To accept employment with San Joaquin Delta College is to accept the responsibility to preserve the confidentiality of this privileged information. Failure to adhere to these guidelines may result in termination of employment.

In addition, SI Leaders should never discuss a faculty, staff member or another tutor with a student; never criticize a grade a faculty member has given a student; never recommend one faculty member over another.

If, however, a student confides to you that he/she plans to commit harm to him/herself or another person, it is your responsibility to immediately notify one your supervisor, or Instructional Support Assistants, the Learning Centers Coordinator, the Grant Coordinator or Campus Police (x.5000).
