Dear Parishioners, Recently I was reading in The Far East about that very famous Japanese Catholic author Shusaku Endo, a very renowned Catholic man who died in 1996. Shusaku and his mother were baptized together when he was 11 years old and in his later years remarked “many times I wanted to get rid of my Catholicism but was unable to; it had penetrated so deeply in my youth and had become part of me.” It is usually informative and occasionally inspirational to read of the spiritual journey of others, as they seek their way to God. Often they are very ordinary people on the outside and yet, deep within there is a genuine search for God. We may unwittingly be living with them, or meeting them in the everyday experiences of life. Although he had suffered ill health for most of his life and spent months at a time in hospital, nevertheless he wrote passionately about the presence of God in his suffering. At the same time in his pain, he often felt the absence of God, what he referred to as the ‘silence of God’ but he felt God’s presence even in that very silence. In one of his books about Jesus the author spoke about His intense humanity and how He experienced joy, sorrow, suffering and apparent failure, and then Endo draws the conclusion that it is often in our experience of weakness, failure, suffering and doubt in our lives that we can get a new and deeper understanding of Jesus. Endo is at pains to remind us of the great compassion of Jesus as manifested by his acceptance of the failures of his apostles and followers, and His readiness to meet and mix with the outcasts and sinners of His time. Endo received many honours as an author and spiritual writer during his lifetime, and at one such presentation when he was once again being conferred with an honorary degree from a Catholic University in the United States, the citation remarked … “You have once again re-awoken in us the knowledge that God still walks among us in unexpected ways…” As we attempt to live out our faith amidst the difficulties and failures which are part of all human endeavours it is wonderful to be reminded that we meet Jesus in so many places and people so that we are constantly reminded of the sacredness of all life and of all situations. Perhaps the secret of seeing God in our daily life is to expect the unexpected and to be prepared to be surprised by God. Dear Parishioners,

Recently I was reading in The Far East about that very famous Japanese Catholic author Shusaku Endo, a very renowned Catholic man who died in 1996. Congratulations to the Parish of St Felix de Valois

We as a parish extend our warmest congratulations to Fr Dominic Van Trung Dinh, the parish Priest of St Felix de Valois parish in Central Bankstown. This weekend they celebrate their centenary as a parish, what a wonderful achievement for any parish, to celebrate its 100th Birthday. Fr Vin and myself look forward to joining Bishop Brady, Fr Dominic, other visiting priests and all the parishioners of St Felix at their special Centenary Mass on this Sunday, at 12.00 pm. Hopefully we shall bump into some of our IHM parishioners who will also be there for the celebration. We wish them every blessing and many more years of wonderful parish life and celebrations.

The Rosary Relay

Join us the catechists of IHM Sefton and catechists from other parishes in celebrating the 99th anniversary of our Lady’s Apparition at Fatima by attending the Rosary Prayers on Thursday 26th May 2016 at our parish IHM Sefton at 8:45am. Please give us your support. Our Weekly Rosary Relay will involve a statue of Mary which will be taken to each parish. Everyone is welcome to pray the rosary for all your intentions, we are after all a family and the family that prays together works miracles.

Celebration of Sacraments at Sefton

Confirmation will be celebrated by Fr John Greig on Friday this evening at 7pm. Parishioners are most welcome to attend. First Holy Communion Will celebrated on 27th August at 5.30pm Mass and on 28th August at 10am Mass. Application forms will be available in the coming weeks.

Parish Website

I am delighted to announce that we finally have an IHM Parish Website. It is up and running although still a work in progress and we will add to it, expand it and improve it in the weeks and months ahead. It will serve as a handy reference site for any parishioners who may need information and it will also incorporate our weekly Bulletin. It will also serve as useful reference and guide to non- parishioners who may seek to contact us, or learn more about us by simply looking us up under our full name or simply as Sefton parish. One of the advantages is that we can add to it and improve it in future days.

The website address is: www.seftoncatholicchurch.org.au
