Issue Number 25 June 16, 2020

9 Do you not know that the unrighteous will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived. Neither fornicators, nor

idolaters, nor adulterers, nor homosexuals, nor sodomites, 10 nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor

extortionist will inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but

you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God. 1 Corinthians 6:9-11

Notice all the things that Paul points out as being unrighteous: fornicators; idolaters; adulterers; homosexuals;

sodomites; thieves; coveters; drunkards; revilers; and extortionists. Paul says these things are unrighteous and people who

choose to live this way will not inherit the kingdom of God. Now, I have stolen things in my lifetime. I have coveted and been

drunk and I have slandered people (reviler) in my lifetime as well. Does this mean that I will not go to Heaven?

Notice verse 11. Paul says, “And such were some of you…” Notice the word “were”. Paul makes it clear that the things

listed above are unrighteous. He also makes it clear that some of those going to Heaven “were” adulterers or homosexuals or

thieves or drunkards. But they have been changed. They have been washed, sanctified, and justified. This means they have

been changed. Sanctified means - “to be set apart.” Paul taught that when we accept Jesus as our Lord and Savior we are new

creations (2 Corinthians 5:17). Jesus taught that for us to enter into the kingdom of Heaven we must be born again.

Beloved, if you are to enter in to Heaven then you cannot remain in a lifestyle of unrighteousness. What defines a

drunkard? Is it getting drunk once a month? How about once a week? Listen to me carefully: A drunkard is someone who

chooses to get drunk and excuse it before God and others. It is not about the amount of times a person gets drunk; it is all

about the willingness to disregard the word of God and what God says about getting drunk.

When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior you cannot stay the same as you were before you accepted Him. You

must be changed. You must choose a life of obedience and put forth an actual effort to live according to God’s word. If you

knowingly and willingly choose to live a life of sin rather than turning from your sin, then don’t expect Jesus to be waiting on you

when you die with open arms. It is not about being perfect, but it is about being “new” and doing your best to honor God with

your life.

Are You?

Alan’s Notes Stefan’s Thoughts We’re continuing our series titled “The Fruits of the Spirit.” Each week in our Sunday morning Bible study time, our teenagers are looking at specific Fruits of the Spirit, how each fruit is produced, and how it can become a consistent part of their lives.

In this second lesson, we continued to focus on Galatians 5:19 -23, where Paul lists the Fruits of the Spirit. This week we talked about patience, kindness, and goodness—three fruits that directly affect our relationships with others. Jesus ’ work in us makes it possible to treat others well, even when they don ’t “deserve” it. This helps draw others to Jesus through us and through our actions.

Take some time this week to talk with your junior higher and keep the conversation going. Here are questions you might want to ask:

• Why is it tough to be kind to someone who doesn ’t deserve it?

• How has Jesus helped show you how to treat others well?

• When is it hard to be yourself? When is it easy?

Each Sunday night in the month of June our students are meeting together for Super Sundays with speaker Michael McAfee and Soul Society leading worship. This is a great opportunity for all of our students to experience a small sample of what Super Summer is about …developing kingdom leaders. What are Super Sundays? This is a time in which students engage in worship and are challenged by powerful teachings from the Scriptures and are then encouraged to respond to these truths in how they live their lives. We are also encouraging our students to read a chapter a day in the book of John during the month of June. This week we will be reading John 8 -14. For more news and updates visit our student page at www.fbcsayrestudents.org or follow our social media outlets at @fbcsayrestudents on Instagram and @fbcsayreyouth on Twitter. Parents can join our parent page on Facebook by clicking Here. Much love to you church!

Have a great week!

Brother Stefan

S erving Christ in

the church is a

lot like riding a

bicycle. It is full of

times of pure joy.

Early morning bike

rides are a great

example. You get

out before dawn and

as you are riding, the sun begins to rise spilling

its glorious color all over the landscape. You

feel at one with God and His creation. Serving

in the church is like that too! You arrive and

address the issues of the day and as you are

moving through the circumstances, the dawn

of the Holy Spirit spills over into the

circumstances reminding you that the work is

not yours but His and you feel at one with Him

as He accomplishes His purposes through you!

Sometimes the work is more difficult

than at other times. People we encounter

through the church sometimes have great

difficulties to face and the work to help is quite

difficult. Some tedious tasks must be done for

things to move forward. But it is kind of like

riding a bicycle up a hill; the work you

experience going up only enhances the joy

once you reach the crest! As we serve Christ

side by side, I believe the effort in the work we

do today will return in the blessing of lives

changed for the Kingdom of God down the

road.

Have you found your place of service to

our great King? Paul wrote in Romans 12:4-6,

“For as we have many members in one body,

but all the members do not have the same

function, so we, being many, are one body in

Christ, and individually members of one

another. Having then gifts differing according

to the grace that is given to us, let us use

them.” (emphasis mine) How you use the

gifts that God has given you by grace will be as

unique as you are!

Serving alongside You,

Brother Alan

“Grasp how wide and long and high and deep is the love of Christ.” Ephesians 3:18

Words cannot express the appreciation and gratitude for the Phyillaier family during this most difficult time. The love, passion, and kindness of FBC Sayre went above and beyond to support us. Thank you for the hundreds of prayers, hugs, and compassion given to us. Thank you for the meal provided, and for Bro. Pete for a most timely and true message at the funeral.

In Christ, Philip Phyillaier
