Sunday 30th Third Sunday April of Easter 2017 (Year A) Finding the Path of Life In today's Gospel, we encounter two disciples on their way to Emmaus joined by Jesus in the guise of a stranger. The two disciples are having somewhat of a crisis of faith. Their Lord and Master had been brutally crucified and the event is the talk of the town. They want to believe that he had risen from the dead, and indeed there were rumours that he had risen, but sll..... Then Jesus, in the guise of the stranger, joins them and as they walk to Emmaus, guides them through biblical text from the me of Moses and shows them passages that proves that he is indeed the Messiah, the Son of God. However it is only when he breaks bread with them and shares a meal at the end of this journey that he reveals himself to them as the Risen Christ. The readings this weekend are all about reminding us about the true meaning of Easter, that Jesus Christ died on the Cross for the sins of humanity so that we would be saved. Or as Peter puts in the second reading, a blood ransom was paid to secure our freedom. Peter in both the first and second readings was at pains to impress on his listeners how big a deal this was, and it’s mely for us to remember this also, now that the excitement and energy of Easter is starng to fade. Shopping centres everywhere have ditched their Easter bunnies and are now into full Mother’s Day mode. So how do we incorporate this Easter reminder into our own lives? The Psalmist sings that ‘Lord you will show us the path of life’ and just like the two disciples in today’s Gospel, Jesus showed them the path of life, which leads to him through careful reading of the scriptures. But he chose to reveal himself to them only when they broke bread together and shared a meal. So to find our own path of life, we need to be open to the living word of God and commune with God and each other through the sharing of the Eucharist. Next me you aend Mass, remember the story of the road to Emmaus and like the two disciples let the word of God nourish you and let Jesus reveal himself to you in the breaking of the bread and the sharing of meal through the Holy Eucharist. In this you will find your own path of life. Blessings for the week ahead. Sunday 30th Third Sunday

April of Easter

2017 (Year A)

Finding the Path of Life

In today's Gospel, we encounter two disciples on their way to Emmaus joined by Jesus in the guise of a

stranger. The two disciples are having somewhat of a crisis of faith. Their Lord and Master had been brutally

crucified and the event is the talk of the town. They want to believe that he had risen from the dead, and

indeed there were rumours that he had risen, but still.....

Then Jesus, in the guise of the stranger, joins them and as they walk to Emmaus, guides them through

biblical text from the time of Moses and shows them passages that proves that he is indeed the Messiah,

the Son of God.

However it is only when he breaks bread with them and shares a meal at the end of this journey that he

reveals himself to them as the Risen Christ.

The readings this weekend are all about reminding us about the true meaning of Easter, that Jesus Christ

died on the Cross for the sins of humanity so that we would be saved. Or as Peter puts in the second

reading, a blood ransom was paid to secure our freedom. Peter in both the first and second readings was at

pains to impress on his listeners how big a deal this was, and it’s timely for us to remember this also, now

that the excitement and energy of Easter is starting to fade. Shopping centres everywhere have ditched

their Easter bunnies and are now into full Mother’s Day mode.

So how do we incorporate this Easter reminder into our own lives?

The Psalmist sings that ‘Lord you will show us the path of life’ and just like the two disciples in today’s

Gospel, Jesus showed them the path of life, which leads to him through careful reading of the scriptures.

But he chose to reveal himself to them only when they broke bread together and shared a meal.

So to find our own path of life, we need to be open to the living word of God and commune with God and

each other through the sharing of the Eucharist. Next time you attend Mass, remember the story of the

road to Emmaus and like the two disciples let the word of God nourish you and let Jesus reveal himself to

you in the breaking of the bread and the sharing of meal through the Holy Eucharist. In this you will find

your own path of life.

Blessings for the week ahead.
