Summer Session

2012

Page 2: Summer Session 2012

By focusing on a limited number of courses, summer students can immerse themselves fully in the topic of their choice. Thiel’s summer courses offer the same high-quality instruction and academic performance of regular academic year courses, but are smaller, less formal and encourage interaction between students and faculty. All students at Thiel during the summer sessions have access to all academic and recreational services.

Summer courses at Thiel are appropriate for students from other colleges and universities, Thiel undergraduates and others (college-bound high school students or those with a bachelor’s degree) looking to delve deeply into an academic topic, earn college credit and take advantage of the educational excellence offered by Thiel College.

For more information about summer courses at Thiel College, contact the Thiel Academic Records Office at 724-589-2110.

Page 5: Summer Session 2012

Due to the condensed time of each term and the accelerated pace of instruction, each student should be aware that eight credit hours is considered to be a full load. A maximum of eight credit hours is recommended.

Thiel Students: Students taking course work to meet graduation requirements should consult with their academic adviser. Independent study will be permitted and is encouraged; please see your academic adviser for details.

Thiel College reserves the right to cancel classes with fewer than five students enrolled unless the instructor offering the course with fewer than five students is willing to teach the course.

STUDENT COURSE LOAD

4

Page 6: Summer Session 2012

Tuition charges for classroom instruction and physical education courses during summer sessions will be at the summer rate of $770 per credit hour.

Dual enrollment students may register from a select list of classes for a fee of $199 per credit hour. See course listings on pages 8-13 for classes available to dual enrollment students.

Cooperative education credits will be charged at the rate of $770 per credit hour and registration must be approved through the Career Services Office (724-589-2014) located on the first floor of Roth Hall. Laboratory and HPED physical activity fees will be applied.

Statements will be sent from the Financial Services Office upon registration and payment is due 10 days prior to the first day of class. Students registering after that time will need to make payment at the Financial Services Office before attending class. The Financial Services Office is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The withdrawal policy is as follows:Students may drop classes during the first two days of the session with no tuition charge. After this period, students will receive a grade of W on their transcript. A pro-rata refund of tuition will be made through 25% of the session. There is no refund after that time.

Thiel College will assume a student is enrolled until written notification is sent to the Academic Records Office indicating a withdrawal from the course. The student is responsible to officially withdraw from a scheduled class. Non-attendance does not constitute a formal withdrawal from a course.
