Business, personal finance, and marketing strategies will be taught to introduce students to business fundamentals such as finance, marketing, and accounting. You will learn about entrepreneurship and corporate social responsibility. At the same time, students will develop leadership and teamwork skills. Mad Scientist Entering Grades 6, 7, & 8 • Session 1 This hands-on, lab-based class allows students to investigate the chemical concepts that explain everyday life. This course promotes scientific discovery through field and laboratory experiences. The class is designed to expand the scope and depth of each student’s science inquiry and reasoning skills. Video Game Coding/Computer Game Design Entering Grades 6, 7, & 8 • Session 4

Learn how to design video games for your computer! Students will have fun creating computer games. Students will learn important computer programming concepts, problem solving skills, and game theory. Games will range from action and adventure to puzzle games.

Fashion, Music, Technology & Design Entering Grades 6, 7, & 8 • Session 4 Through the use of music, technology, and hands-on learning, students will study trends, the history of fashion, learn to recognize patterns, design, and create their own pieces.

The Farmington Public Schools’ Summer School Program is aimed at increasing competencies in core academic areas. The program will incorporate a variety of instructional strategies and methods to promote student success. Please note, when creating a class schedule, the grades listed are for the students entering these grades for the 2020-2021 school year.

Attendance PolicyStudents with more than two (2) absences will NOT receive a grade for the course. They will receive CREDIT/NO CREDIT.

Youth Center Join the Summer Drop in Program with a 25th Anniversary Special! After school transportation will be available from Power Middle School to the Farmington Hills Ice Arena. A one time cost of $225 includes youryouth membership registration fee that is good for the entire 2020-2021 school year, transportation, and daily drop in cost to the center for every day of the summer school program. Math Readiness Entering Grade 6 • Session 1

This course is designed to provide a solid foundation for students entering middle school math in the 2020-2021 school year.

Math TransitionEntering Grade 7 • Session 2

This course is designed to assist exiting 6th graders with skills needed for success as they enter 7th grade math in the 2020-2021 school year.

Math Foundations Entering Grade 8 • Session 3

This course is designed to prepare incoming 8th grade students for the rigor of higher level math.

Online Math Enrichment/Academic GamesEntering Grades 6, 7, & 8 • Session 4

This class focuses on grade level math skill building using computer-based programs that target the needs of each individual student. Academic manipulative math games such as Equations, On-Sets, and Linguishtik will be played.

HealthEntering Grade 7 • Sessions 1, 2, 3, & 4

This course fulfills the 7th grade health requirement. Students will learn how to make informed decisions, modify behavior, and change social conditions regarding conflict resolution, nutrition, substance abuse, and family life education.

SpanishEntering Grades 6, 7, & 8 • Session 2

This beginning level course is filled with diverse, multimedia language activities. Students begin their introduction to Spanish by focusing on the four key areas of foreign language study: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. The course represents an ideal blend of language learning pedagogy and online learning. Physical Education/The Great American OUTdoorsEntering Grades 6, 7, & 8 • Session 3

This course is a combination of indoor and outdoor activities. Students will learn game strategies and team play. The games that will be played encourage student cooperation and teach team building skills.

Creative Writing, Films, Novels & History, Oh My! Entering Grades 6, 7, & 8 • Session 3 Do you love to read? Love a good movie? LOVE History? This is the class for you! Students will read novels, explore the screen adaptation of these books and learn about historical perspective. This book club style class will help students view the world through their love of words.
