Summer Math Packet for Rising 5th Graders
We hope your family is having a safe and wonderful summer vacation!
While we hope you are having an enjoyable break, we also hope your child retains what
he or she has learned over the 2014-2015 school year. Therefore, we are providing each child
with a summer math packet.
This packet is to be completed week-by-week, not all at once. There are eight weeks of
quick practice in this packet, along with copies of our 5th
grade timed multiplication tests. We
suggest you do one practice sheet a week, starting with “Week One” during the week of June 1st.
These are fourth grade skills that are important to master before fifth grade.
In addition to the six to ten practice problems, there is a multiplication-timed test to
complete each week. In fifth grade, the expectation is that students can complete the
multiplication sheet in two minutes. As your child completes each sheet, time your child and see
how long it takes to complete the test. Look for improvement each time your child practices.
Fluency in basic multiplication facts is a critical skill to be successful in fifth grade. Beyond
these practice sheets, spend time ensuring your child knows his or her multiplication facts
through the nines.
Thank you for helping your child be prepared for fifth grade. If your packet is lost, you
can download it at www.thrasherelementary.org to make a new copy. Your child’s math teacher
will collect packets on the first day of classes.
Thank you and have a great summer,
Mrs. Spino and Mr. Wood
