Switch Classroom Energy Fundamentals Course

Description:

Switch Classroom is a free video-based learning platform that uses innovative, visual and entertaining energy education materials for students. Students will complete modules to learn more about the energy sector. Upon completion the student will receive an Energy Fundamentals Certificate from the Centre of Excellence for Energy.

Active Learning and Self-Directed Learning Module Active learning is an approach to instruction that involves actively engaging participants with the course material through discussions, problem-solving, case studies, role plays and other methods. Discover why hands-on, active learning leads to high levels of achievement and how you can apply learning strategies for your personal development. Register for this module to see why active learning increases grade levels and performance, and emotional and mental health. Complex Problem-Solving Module Learn to find solutions when the problem isn’t well-defined, and the steps are not clear. Real-world challenges are often novel and ill-defined, especially in today’s tech-driven world. In this module, students will learn how to tackle big problems. They will develop an understanding of what complex problems are, how to define them and how to solve them. Register to learn how to interpret and apply data, see situations from different vantage points, account for environmental influences and consider the broader impact of a decision, all to solve problems.

Systems Analysis and Evaluation Skills Module Develop your ability to understand, evaluate and improve systems. In this module, students will learn to gather and interpret facts, diagnose problems and use information to make improvements to systems. They will work through case studies and practise applying logic and reasoning to make assessments on the credibility and quality of ideas and practices. Register if you’re ready to breakdown the components of systems, work to understand and evaluate them and improvements.

Description:

Leadership and Social Influence Module Learn how to influence others and guarantee that the right people recognize your leadership potential. In this module, we'll explain why students first have to look internally to demonstrate their ability to lead. We'll work with mind maps, and have each participant create a CREDO, identifying their own values and setting a vision for the future. By the end of this session, they'll know why you need to understand yourself to be able to socially influence others. Leadership is a skill that can be developed, and it starts here.

Workplace Readiness Module Learn the top skills that employers expect you to know when entering a job with but that no one has comprehensively trained you on yet. In this module, students will build insight into their own personal values, understand their strengths as an employee and work on the skills that are most important, relevant, and valued by employers today. Better understand the reality of the Future of Work and focus on the foundational cognitive skills and non-cognitive skills that matter most. Register to develop the practical skills that will lead an employee to immediate career success.

myBlueprint’s All About Me is a student driven portfolio that lets students explore who they are and what they want to become. In this interactive lesson, students in Grades 4-6 will explore their personal interests to make connections to their future selves! Students will add this work to a portfolio and earn badges as they do this! Students will complete this self-paced lesson by using the pre-recorded lesson to guide their creation inside their All About Me account. Parents/guardians are welcome to join their child in this process.
