I2 STEM Camp King’s Academy is the only school in the Middle East to host the prestigious i2 # / ; 7 students entering 7th, 8th or 9th grades a series of innovative one-week courses, blending science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). The intimate hands-on activities of the courses strive to excite and inspire campers about STEM, creating enthusiasm that will spill over to their schoolwork and school choices in future years. The i2 curriculum was developed through partnerships with world class STEM organizations such as MIT, the Museum of Science in Boston and Cold Spring Harbor Laboratories. Faculty will be excellent science teachers from the United States and Jordan, assisted by university and college students as well as King’s Academy graduates.

All i2 course instruction is in English, so participants need to have a solid knowledge of the language. Following is a list of * 7 ?

Math Foundations For students seeking to improve their math skills and knowledge (including students who want to work on their English-based math skills), the Math Foundations courses provide a thorough review of various levels of mathematics, including pre-algebra, algebra and geometry. Students are carefully tested upon arrival to ensure proper placement in one of the following courses:

Pre-AlgebraPre-algebra is designed for Grade 7, Grade 8 and Grade 9 students who have not yet mastered the concepts or skills needed for Algebra I. The course covers addition, subtraction, multiplication, division of rational numbers, basic plane geometry, measurement, percentage, ratio, proportion, solution of simple algebraic equations and an overall emphasis on the fraction concept.

Algebra IAlgebra I is designed for students who have already completed a basic algebra course but who need additional work to master the concepts. Emphasis is on such topics as the properties of the real number system, 9 9 fundamental operations involving polynomial and rational expressions, systems of linear equations in two variables, fractions, factoring, ratio, proportion, variation, exponents, roots, quadratic equations, the trigonometry of right triangles and problem solving.

GeometryGeometry is designed for students who have already completed a basic geometry course but who need additional work to master the concepts. The course is designed to provide students with a robust and rigorous foundation in mathematical skills and concepts via the twin pillars of algebraic manipulation and Euclidean geometry. Topics include the axiomatic system, line and angle relationships, polygons, congruency, similarity, geometry of the circle, area and volume.

Advanced Algebra Advanced Algebra is designed for students who have already completed a second-level algebra course (Algebra II in an American system) but who need additional work to master the concepts. Course material includes an emphasis on slope as an average rate of change, introduction of inverse functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, polynomial functions, rational expressions and functions, radical expressions and functions, the introduction of imaginary numbers, right triangle trigonometry and matrices, and an overview of statistics and probability. A graphing calculator is required.

“I enjoyed meeting kids from different cultures and getting to know them. I had only five students in my math class, so the teacher could focus on each student individually.” Tijan Al MughrabiKuwait City
