Summer Art Homework Assignment (MANDATORY) Eleventh Grade (for Grade 12 next year) Advanced Placement Studio Art – 2D Design Advanced Placement Studio Art is required for all students in 11 th and 12 th grade. Visual Arts Seniors will be enrolled in AP Studio Art 2D Design. Unlike AP Drawing, the portfolio criteria for 2D Design will be based on the application of the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. Summer Assignment: Six Breadth Pieces (Due first week of school – No work accepted after the first week). MINIMUM SIZE REQUIREMENT: 11” X 17” (equivalent of two 8 ½ X 11 pages side by side). Students may work larger sizes, as long as six assignments are turned in. Assignment: 1. Students will create six breadth pieces based on each of the choices in Column “A” below. Additionally, each piece must utilize one or more of the elements listed in Column “B”. Included with this packet are definitions and visual examples of the Elements and Principles of Art and Design. The subject matter and media for each piece will be determined by the student. 2. On the back of each piece list the chosen Principle Design as well as the Elements of Art utilized. A. DUE DATE FOR SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS: First week of classes. Work will NOT be accepted after the first week of school. GRADING POLICY: There will be 48 total grades for the six Breadth pieces (eight grades for each piece).

Each assignment will be graded on the following criteria: Effort, Technique, Composition, Color/Contrast, Value, Proportion, Presentation, Overall
