The SouthArk Center for Workforce Development at South Arkansas Community College serves as a link between the college and area businesses, industries and government agencies. Customized training is developed in response to a specific demand by local business and industry. SouthArk offers customized programs and pre-employment training to help your business excel in today’s highly competitive economy. Training can be delivered at SouthArk or your business. COMPTIA NETWORK+ CERTIFICATION

SouthArk CFWD, Room 105 Fee: $1,500/student The CompTIA Network+ Certification is the sign of a competent networking professional. It is an

international, vendor-neutral certification that proves a technician's competency in managing, maintaining,

troubleshooting, installing and configuring basic network infrastructure. The CompTIA Network+ Certification

is an international industry credential that validates the knowledge of networking professionals. This course

teaches the fundamentals of networking and prepares students for the Network+ certification exam. Through

hands-on training and exercises students learn the vendor-independent skills and concepts necessary for all

networking professionals. In order to be certified in the latest version of CompTIA Network+, students have to

pass exam N10-005: Network+ Certification. The exam addresses the latest skills needed by technicians, such

as basic principles on how to secure a network. The exam covers network technologies, media and topologies,

devices, management, tools and security. Although not a prerequisite, it is recommended that CompTIA

Network+ candidates have at least nine months of experience in network support or administration or academic

training, along with a CompTIA A+ Certification.

CompTIA Network+ certifications issued in 2011 or later are valid for three years.

William Byrd Byrd is a Professor of Computer Science at Pulaski Technical College. He has completed Cyber Terrorism training by Homeland Security and the National Science Foundation, and is a First-Line Responder in the event of a cyber-terrorism attack. Working with heads of industry and state developing continuity plans in the event of compromised data, he also conducts training classes on all levels of cyber security and database security. Byrd’s certifications include: Microsoft Certified System Developer (MCSD), Microsoft Certified System Engineer (MCSE), Microsoft Certified Partner, CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+, CompTIA Security+, Apple Developer, Apple Partner, Cyber Security First-Line Responder, and Homeland Security Anti-Cyber-Terrorism Responder and Trainer.

Rhonda Williams Byrd Byrd is a Corporate Trainer and Business Coach who has developed an expansive client base over the state of Arkansas. She is also an Adjunct Professor of Computer Science at Arkansas State University, South Arkansas Community College, North Arkansas Community College, Criminal Justice Institute of the University of Arkansas System, and others. Byrd has over 18 years’ experience teaching computer applications, developing course curriculum, and designing and developing online course content. She is also a Specialist in Instruction of Underserved Markets, a Certified Classroom Teacher of Secondary Education, and a Certified Law Enforcement Instructor. SAFETY & SKILLS TRAINING

BASIC OPERATOR ORIENTATION TRAINING BOOT Camp will offer an introduction to what process technology is like utilizing the H.O.T. unit (Hands on Trainer). Each course is limited to 15 students and advance registration is required. Students successfully completing the course will receive a certificate. Course fee is $150/student. BOOT camp is led by Bennie Adams.

C-STOP (Contractor Safety Training Orientation Program) Instructor: Varies SouthArk CFWD, Room 134 Fee: $50/student The C-Stop program meets a significant portion of the OSHA mandated contractor requirements. This increases safety-training efficiency for the contract employee due to a reduction in redundant information being presented. However, the C-Stop program is not meant to relieve contract companies of all training responsibilities. There are elements of the standards that require the contractor to provide employer specific information regarding policy and procedures as well as some hands on training on specific equipment. All subjects are covered at the orientation level. Contractors are required to take this training to receive a C-STOP badge to enter the plants of Lion Oil, Chemtura, El Dorado Chemical, DuPont, Albemarle, Entegra, Clean Harbors, Tetra, Georgia Pacific. These companies also accept similar contractor safety orientation programs such as Basic Orientation Plus recognized by the Association of Reciprocal Safety Council within the past 12 months. The site-specific training for some of these plants is also offered. Two day advance registration is required or a late registration fee is charged. Check-in and photos are taken starting at 8:30 a.m. and classes begin at 9:00 a.m. Registration deadline is 2 business days prior to the class date. This is a ONE DAY course offered on the following days:

SMOKE SCHOOL: VISIBLE EMISSIONS TRAINING AND CERTIFICATION Monday, May 19 from 7 am-1 pm

SouthArk CFWD, Room 121 and back parking lot $360/person Compliance Assurance Associates, Inc. provides complete smoke school training in accordance with 40 CFR 60 Appendix A, Method 9, Method 22, 203A, 203B, 203C. Upon completion of the lecture and field training your personnel will be ready to read and completely document their readings in a defensible format.

GENERAL INFORMATION -Arrive 20 - 30 minutes early for registration. -The field certification takes place outdoors and takes place whether rain or shine. As long as the visibility is greater than three (3) miles, and there is no lightning, the field runs continue. Poor visibility and lightning usually pass within an hour or two, and the field runs can resume. -Good long-distance vision is required for field certification. Students are advised to remember that whatever eyeglasses or sunglasses (prescription or nonprescription) you wear during the certification test are REQUIRED every time you actually do VE readings. OTHER THINGS TO BRING -Office supplies: clipboard, note paper, pen (not pencil) -Rain gear: umbrella, raincoat, visor. -Comfort supplies: lawn or camping chair, hat, snack, bottled water, sunscreen. About the instructor… Arthur “Art” Eberle, President and CEO. Eberle received his B.S. in Chemical Engineering from Christian Brothers University and M.B.A. from the University of Memphis. He worked within a Fortune 100 for nearly a decade in both Environmental and OSHA regulatory compliance. He developed a safety training program for REC, and in 1997 founded Compliance Assurance Associates, Inc. and subsequently developed the Method 9 Opacity Training program offer by CAA, Inc.

8 HOUR HAZWOPER REFRESHER This course is AVAILABLE ON DEMAND 8:00 am – 5:00 pm SouthArk CFWD, Room 141 $50/student This one-day course meets the requirements in OSHA 29 CFR 1910.120 for eight hours of annual refresher training for workers at hazardous waste sites. A 24-hour HazWoper initial training is a required prerequisite for taking the 8 hour HazWoper Refresher. If someone has gone two years without refresher training, they need to retake the initial HazWoper course.

OSHA developed the HAZWOPER program to protect workers at hazardous sites and devised extensive regulations to ensure their safety and health. This course, while identifying different types of hazards, also suggests possible precautions and protective measure to reduce or eliminate hazards at the work place.

24 HOUR HAZWOPER/C-STOP COMBOS Monday-Wednesday, Aug. 4-6 from 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

SouthArk CFWD, Room 141 $297/ student This course is specifically designed for workers who are involved in clean-up operations, emergency response operations, and storage, disposal, or treatment of hazardous substances or uncontrolled waste sites. Topics include protection against hazardous chemicals, elimination of hazardous chemicals, safety of workers and the environment, and OSHA regulations. This course covers topics included in 29 CFR. FIRST AID/ CPR/ AED This course is AVAILABLE ON DEMAND Instructor: Scotty Points Fee: $49/person This course gives individuals the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide basic care for breathing, cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses, including how to use an automated external defibrillator (AED) for victims of sudden cardiac arrest, until advanced medical personnel arrive and take over. The course lasts approximately 4 hours and is offered on demand.

Tim Hogue Hogue holds an A.A.S. in Industrial Electronics Technology, a technical certificate in refrigeration and is currently pursuing a B.S. in Electrial Engineering Technology. He is a licensed industrial maintenance electrician, residential master electrician, and high pressure boiler operator. Hogue holds EPA certification in handling and reclaiming refrigerants as well as certifications in the areas of reliability centered maintenance and root cause analysis.

Mike Meadows Meadows is retired from Lion Oil where he served over 20 years as a safety engineer. He currently serves as a C-STOP instructor.

Ron Palculict A chemical engineer, Palculict recently retired from Lion Oil after 18 years where he served most recently as the Safety and Security Manager. Palculict currently serves as a C-STOP instructor.

Bennie Adams Recently retired after 33 years in the chemical industry, Adams has served as maintenance technician, safety technician, supervisor, and safety/security manager. As Security Manager, Adams specialized in the Department Of Homeland Security’s Chemical Anti-terrorism Standard (CFATS).

SPANISH FOR SAFETY SUPERVISORS Instructor: Osman Latino Offered on demand. Available on site weekdays or nights. Learn the fundamentals of effectively communicating in the workplace. The instructor will cover general workplace terminology such as common phrases, numbers, warnings, areas, and materials. In addition, emergency situations and preparedness are addressed. A basic proficiency test will be administered at the completion of this course.

Osman Latino A native of Nicaragua, Latino holds a Bachelor of Foreign Language in English with a concentration in Interpretation, Education, and Translation from the National A. University of Nicaragua. He has 9 years experience interpreting for various organizations including the Baptist Medical Missions of America and Friends of San Juan de Oriente in Sacramento. Latino currently resides in El Dorado where he serves as a part-time adjunct Spanish Instructor for SouthArk.

When we cancel: Classes will be cancelled if a minimum number of full-paying students have not registered by the registration deadline. Early registration helps eliminate the disappointment of course cancellations. Full refunds are given for any classes that we cancel.

When you cancel: The Office of Corporate and Community Education will refund your registration fee if you cancel up to 5 business days before the class begins. If you cancel less than 5 business days before the class, you will be charged the full amount for the class. Another person may attend in your place when a refund is not allowed. Some seminars, workshops, camps, etc. will have separate cancellation policies. Please inquire about these before registering.

Senior Discount Policy: Senior citizens are required to pay full price for all non-credit courses unless otherwise indicated.

TRAINING CONSORTIUM

The purpose of SAWTEC is to create and coordinate a formal system to carry out a cooperative program designed to meet the common training/education needs of members by determining those needs on a regular basis, planning training curriculum, setting training schedules, selecting training providers, and determining fees. All businesses or industries in the South Arkansas region are eligible to apply for membership in SAWTEC. To maintain membership, a business or industry must contribute annual dues or a prorated amount of dues for that

part of the initial fiscal year of membership.
