FeesFees for each course are shown in the course listings, course fees, examfees and materials fees are due on enrolment. The standard fee for newlearners not receiving active means tested benefits is £3.90 per hour, theconcessionary fee for new learners is £1.55 per hour and the costrecovery fee for learners enrolling on a second or subsequent courses is£5.50 per hour. All students (except those on basic skills and familylearning classes), pay an annual non-refundable registration fee of £5.

Special offerReturning learners who introduce a new learner (a learner who has notattended a course this academic year) to any course starting in thesummer term can have 10% off their own returning fee. Please note youwill need to enrol together and complete the application form to qualifyfor the discounted fee.

No cost to learnerFrom 2012/13 learners who meet certain criteria will not have to pay anyfees for some courses.

These are

■ Those studying basic skills literacy and numeracy courses and familylearning programmes.

■ Those who are on active benefits or wider offer to the unemployed willnot have to pay any fees to study ESOL, vocational qualification coursesfull level 2 qualification courses or other level 2 courses.

■ For learners who are not on active benefits or wider offer to theunemployed, those aged 19 to 23 (but who are not on active benefits)who are studying vocational qualification courses, their first full level 2qualification course (excluding ESOL) will not have to pay any fees.

Concessionary feesPeople receiving the following benefits are eligible for a concessionary rate

■ Job Seekers Allowance (JSA) or

■ Employment and Support Allowance in the Work Related ActivityGroup (ESA WRAG)

■ Council tax benefit

■ Income support

■ Working tax credit

■ Pension credit

■ Contribution-based ESA

■ Unwaged dependent on one of the above

Learners aged 60 and over are only eligible for a concessionary fee if theyare also receiving one of the benefits listed above. Please bring proof ofbenefit or entitlement with you when you enrol, we can not acceptfreedom travel passes as proof of eligibility.

CrècheOur OFSTED registered creche is available for children aged six months to fourand a half years, Monday to Friday from 9am to 6pm, at £6 per hour plus asmall contribution for refreshments. Full payment must be made in advance.

Lampshade making. Learn to make bespoke lampshades -traditional silk lined andcontemporary firm that co-ordinate with your home. A charge is made for frames and fabrics.

Make a planter and /orwindow box. Students willlearn, in the four weeks, how to use basic woodworking tools to make a planter/tub for a garden. There is a materials charge ofapproximately £15 for theplanter and £10 for the windowbox, but exact costs depend onwood and sizes chosen.

Picture framing. Learn how to make your own frames.Initially students should bringalong a 10cm x15cm (4"x6")picture or photo for framing. A charge is made for wood,perspex and accessories; whichwill be approximately £20 fortwo frames.

Upholstery. Learn the basicaspects of upholstery, including:safe use of hand tools andequipment, stripping a chair,webbing and fabric measuring.New students should bringalong a small item of furnitureto begin their learning e.g. a‘drop-in' seat or a simple stool.All projects must be approved by the tutor at enrolment.Charges are made for materialsused and students provide theirown top fabric. Woodcarving. Explore thesculptural possibilities of woodthrough carving. Discover theproperties of different woods,using them to make abstract orfigurative work. Frequently asked questions

What are the term dates for this year?Summer term: 15 April 2013 to 31 July 2013.

How can I pay? You can pay by cash, card or cheques made payable toLondon Borough of Southwark Council. If your course is 20 weeks orlonger you can pay in instalments. For courses of 20 to 29 weeks you canpay in two instalments of 50%. For courses of 30 weeks or more you canpay in one 50% instalment and two subsequent 25% instalments. You willneed to complete a payment option form to qualify for instalmentpayments. You must complete post-dated cheques for the subsequentpayments. Exam fees and materials fees must be paid on enrolment.

Are there any other fees? Some courses, including ceramics andupholstery carry a fee for materials. Please ask for more details. Exam feesmust be paid when you enrol.

Can I get a refund? If we cancel a course before the start date we willgive you a full refund, and if we close a course after it’s started we’ll giveyou a part refund. We are unable to refund you if you withdraw from acourse unless you are too ill to continue with your studies and have adoctor’s certificate.

Can I change course? If you find that a course isn’t right for you afterthe first class, you may be able to change to another course. Please ask yourtutor for more information.

Can I join a course that has already started? With non examcourses this may be possible, please ask your course tutor for moreinformation and course costs.

What is the age limit? Learners need to be aged 19 years or older on31 August, unless they are attending a family learning session with a parent.
