Who We Are: The Southeast Seattle Education Coalition (SESEC) is a collaboration of community based organizations, community activists, and stakeholders working to improve education in Southeast Seattle.
Our Vision: We envision a world where all students have access to and succeed in high performing public schools and become productive and engaged citizens.
Our Mission: To rally communities of color and allies to improve Southeast Seattle Schools so that all students succeed and all families are empowered.

What We Do:· Advocate for policies and practices that advance out strategies;· Convene partners to break down barriers and pursue a common vision;
· Build collaboration within the education community;· Share Information about education in SE Seattle;
· Encourage communities of color to be actively engaged; and· Educate funders and the education community about engaging communities of color.

Members, Allies and Supporters
BENEFITS:· Participate in a grassroots coalition working to improve student achievement in Southeast Seattle · Strengthen the engagement and influence of communities of color in school change· Connect with other like-minded organizations and people committed to our children’s future· Join together in advocacy for empowered parents and successful children· Gain visibility for your organization and work
MEMBER, ALLY and SUPPORTER ORGANIZATIONS agree to:· Support SESEC’s mission, principles, and strategies· Refer other potential member organizations as appropriate· Members will allow SESEC to use the member organization’s name on SESEC marketing materials
such as website, letterhead, press releases, etc.
MEMBERS: SESEC Members must represent community based organizations that provide services in Southeast Seattle, and the majority of clients served overall must be students/families of color. Member organizations will send the Executive Director or his/her designee to at least 50% of monthly membership meetings and join a committee.
Members whose meeting attendance is less than 50% of monthly meetings annually will lose their voting privileges until they return to a 50% or more attendance.
ALLIES: Allies support SESEC’s mission but may not be able to meet membership requirements. Allies may be organizations or individuals. Ally organizations will attend at least three general meetings a year, and participate in committee meetings and activities as possible. Allies do not have voting privileges. Allies have a suggested donation based on their organizational budgets.
SUPPORTERS: Supporters are organizations who support SESEC’s mission but who are unable to commit to SESEC at the Member or Ally level. Supporters do not have voting privileges. Supporters have a suggested donation based on their organizational budgets.
DEFINITION OF SOUTHEAST SEATTLE: “Southeast Seattle” is the area East of I-5, South of I-90, West of Lake Washington, and north of the southern City of Seattle limits. There are 22 public schools in the SE region.
