Sharing some interpretations on " Sri Venkateshwara Suprabhatam " which I got froma dear friend of mine. This is only an attempt & hence, please feel free tocounter-interpret the purport of any stanza, if not found suitable. Thanks foryour reading.--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\------------------------------------------------------------------------Sri Venkateshwara SuprabhatamThe Suprabhatam is sung in the morning as a wake-up call for Lord Venkateshwara, also addressed as Sri Tirupati Balaji. Its a very pleasant feeling to hear theclear voice of late M. S. Subbalakshmi ringing through the cool morning air. Thedefinitive source for the meaning of each shloka is the site maintained by TTD(the Tirupati Tirumala Devasthanam). It even has some artwork associated witheach stanza.Below is an attempt as a literal translation followed by the transliteration ofeach shloka. Then comes the literal translation of each phrase in the stanza.1. [Atryadi-saptarsayas samupasya sandhyamaksasindhu-kamalani manoharaniadaya padayugam archayitum prapannasesadri-sekhara-vibho! tava suprabhatam

(This sloka is addressed to the Lord)atri Adi : Atri (and the) othersapta rishiH: seven rishissamupasya: prayers/ritualssandhyam: (of) morningakasasindhu: akasa + sindhuakasa : skysindhu : another name for the ganges river

Thus akasa sindhu literally means the " holy river in the sky " . It was used torefer to the Milky way, which when viewed on a clear night does look like adivine river of the stars...

Kamalani manoharani: beautiful lotuses (manohar: beautiful)adaya pada: your feetarchayitum: offerprapanna: supplicatesesadri sekhara: lord of shesadritava suprabhatam: good (or auspicious) morning to youAtri and the seven rishis, having performed their morning rituals, pray to you, laying beautiful lotus flowers from the divine Ganges at your feet. Anauspicious morning unto you, Oh Lord of Sheshachala! This stanza has a lot more beauty than a literal reading affords it. To get abetter view, a little background:The seven great rishis (sages) are supposed to reside in the heavens as theseven stars of Ursa Major and explained in the literal translation, Akasa sindhu

refers to the milky way, which was viewed as a divine river flowing through theheavens. If seen this way, the stanza takes on a loftier, almost cosmic tone. Wesee the greatest sages of all time, ever present in the skies as the stars ofUrsa major plucking " flowers " off the milky way itself as a morning offering tothe Lord.......Sarvatra Govinda namasankirtanam............Govinda !!......Govinda !!..........................--------------------------------------------------------------------------------\
