NAME OF ORGANIZATION
The name of this organization shall be The Style and Design Association Club at Johnson and Wales University.
PURPOSE
The purpose of The Style and Design Association (SDA) is to highlight the ways in which culture, fashion and design
intersect. The SDA club will help educate students about the impact that art, visual design and lifestyles have on the
fashion industry. This will allow students to gain a broader knowledge of how the fashion industry is influenced by a
variety of factors. Students will engage in activities that will allow them to obtain cultural experiences and creative
practices that they can relate to their majors. The SDA club’s purpose is also to provide a safe environment for
students to develop their creative design practices through participation in various workshops. In addition, members
will participate in volunteer work that will help them gain experience in the fashion industry and contribute to the
larger community. The SDA club will educate students about contemporary ideology present in the fashion and design
industry.
BROAD OBJECTIVES
The Style and Design Association club’s main function is to organize social events for its members that are fun,
educational, and interesting which can develop their creative design practices that can relate to their majors. The club
will participate in volunteer work to help strengthen work experience and community bonds.
MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS
For one to be eligible for membership to the Style and Design Association one must be an enrolled at Johnson and
Wales University as a student and maintain a 2.0 GPA or higher.
MEMBERSHIP RESPONSIBILITIES
A member must attend club meetings and events to maintain active membership. Members are expected to engage
in club activities and contribute to accomplishing the club's goals. Members are also encouraged to network with one
another and share creative ideas. As a member of the Style and Design Association, you will be able to attend club
meetings, field trips, community service, and fundraiser events.
OFFICER DUTIES
The following are the established officer duties. The president of the Style and Design Association is responsible for
the direction of overall operations, recommending and establishing goals, objectives and plans for the club, staying in
contact with the Student Involvement Network, helping arrange events/meetings, and motivating the executive
board. The vice president of the Style and Design Association is responsible for helping the president coordinate and
direct operations, performing tasks that may be delegated by the president, consult the president by recommending
goals, objectives, and plans for the club, perform presidential duties when president is unable to perform. The
secretary of the Style and Design Association is responsible for preparing the executive board meeting agendas with
the assistance of the president, record and distribute minutes, keep and maintain constitution and executive
handbooks and assist the treasurer in collecting annual due. The treasurer of the Style and Design Association is
responsible for collecting fees/dues, finding sponsorships/collaborations, working with the president to monitor
annual budgets, and collaborating with the event coordinator on fundraisers. The Event Coordinator of the Style and
Design Association is responsible for the event committee, organizing club events throughout the year, collaborating
with the treasurer to create fundraisers and organizing club recruitment events. The Public Relations officer is

responsible for networking, coming up with public relations strategies, working in collaboration with the events
committee, and creating flyers and posters with the assistance of the president. The Creative Consultant is
responsible for ideas for workshops and meetings, and working on events with the events coordinator. The Social
Media Correspondent is responsible for updating all of the club’s social media pages, and is also in charge of editing
the club’s blog.
ROLE OF FACULTY ADVISOR
The role of the faculty advisor is to attend events if required by Student Involvement & Leadership. If required, the
advisor must be present for the duration of events, including setup and breakdown. The faculty advisor of the Style
and Design Association is responsible for enforcing university policies and procedures as well as relevant state, local
and federal laws. The faculty advisor should stay in close contact with the executive board and the student
involvement and leadership. The advisor should ensure that the student involvement & leadership is consulted
regarding all contacts. The faculty advisor should also contribute in reaching the clubs goals and objectives.
ELECTIONS/VOTING
Prior to club voting/ elections: Club elections will begin at the end of the school year for open positions on the
executive board. The club secretary will send a memo (via email or personal delivery) to the members of the club at
least 14 days prior to elections.
Nominations: Members can nominate themselves if interested a position on the executive board. Interested
members must inform the executive board of their nomination. Once nominations are closed, no more nominations
will be accepted.
Eligibility for executive board: To be eligible for a position on the executive board, members must obtain a 2.0 GPA or
higher, is an active member of the Fashion and Lifestyle association, and must have attended at least half of the club
meetings.
Voting guidelines/ Ratification: Once all nominees are in, the voting process may begin. Voting is done through the
members of the club, however already existing members of the executive board will make the final decision.
Elections: Members / Executive board member shall not discriminate against any nominees. Nominees for positions
will be chosen specifically based on abilities and majority voting.
Post Elections: If the majority of the executive board members feels as though another e-board member is not
completing the clubs objects/ goals, those executive board members can be voted off based on a majority rule voting.
If the E-board comes to a 50/50 vote, the advisor will make the final decision.
COMMITTEES
The Style and Design Association will have an events committee for the club. The events committee will consist of
members of the club. The event committee is responsible for the setup of events, keeping in contact with contacts,
creating new events, design visuals, attending events, take pictures at events, and engage in any activities needed at
the time/organization of an event.

MEETINGS
MEETING PROCEDURE
The Style and Design Association meeting procedure will begin when the president calls the meeting to order. Once
the meeting has begun, the executive board will follow a planned agenda. The president will take attendance via an
attendance sheet. The executive board will then proceed with discussing any new business and/or begin any planned
activities. Once all objectives on the agenda are met, the meeting will be adjourned by the president.
STANDARDIZED MEETING TIMES
The Style and Design Association will strive to have meetings on Wednesdays at 6 o’clock. However, meeting times
are subject to change.
AMENDMENTS
Amendments to this constitution are at the discretion of the executive board. Amendments must be taken on to the
membership and receive more than half of membership vote in order to be considered eligible.
AUTHORITY
All members must follow the rules and regulations of Johnson and Wales University while in meetings, off campus,
and while on campus. Members must abide by the rules and authority of the University in a positive manner.
