Introduction to anatomy as morphological science, acquisition of professional

terminology, study of the locomotion system extremities. Familiarizing with

anatomy of the chest, abdomen and pelvis, and skeletotopical and holotopical

ratios in these physical gaps of the body.

11. Course contents:

Theory

1.Introduction to osteology and anatomy, types of bones, bone components,

technical terminology, bones of stationary and movable parts of the upper limbs,

bones of stationary and movable parts of the lower limbs, chest and body bones

2. Introduction to syndesmology, definition of joints, components of joints, types

of joints, syndesmology of upper limbs, syndesmology of the trunk and lower

limbs

3.Miology, angiology and neurology of the upper limb; miology, angiology and

neurology of the lower limb

4. Bone orientation: collarbone, scapula, upper arm, forearm bones (radius and

ulna), chest bones, breast anatomy, respiratory organs, blood organs.

Abdominal wall- muscles, vasculature, innervation, ratios

5.Organs in the abdominal cavity- peritoneum, esophagus, stomach; organs in

the abdominal cavity-small and large intestine, liver, biliary tract, pancreas

-Introduction of the basic concepts and tasks of clinical psychology and health

psychology and their applicability in medical settings.

-To familiarize students with the concepts, structure, psychological processes and

personality changes through different developmental periods.

- Introduction to the basic principles of psychological approach, preparation and

implementation of psychological interventions with patients and/or inpatients;

knowledge and understanding of human behavior in medical settings, the person’s

reactions to illness.

-To familiarize students with biopsychosocial model of health, psychological aspects of

somatic diseases, and some of the most common mental disorders; assessment of

different approaches to diagnosis and treatment and understanding of the link of these

different approaches to their potential impact on patients.

-To gain knowledge and methods for maintaining and promoting mental health and well

being.

-To develop communication skills (doctor/patient).

Practicing the pronunciation of medical terms, translation of specific terms and

phrases, lexical exercises for presentation and assessment of medical

terminology, exercises for training students to be informative, selective and

analytical; reading through deductive and inductive conclusions; training

students for writing short dialogues, abstracts, paragraphs or short texts on

given topics.

10. Course objectives (competencies): The main objectives of the course are to train

students to implement rules of the Russian language at basic level of

proficiency. By the end of the course students will have acquired 700 to 1000

Russian words (during the first and second semester), will have developed

understanding of speech in monologues and dialogues, will have become able to

conduct basic conversation in Russian, and will have become able to read and

write.

11. Course contents:

First, emphasis will be placed on mastering the Russian alphabet and

grammatical categories in the Russian language: nouns, gender and number

of nouns, personal pronouns , possessive pronouns , infinitive structures

with the words "possible" and "necessary", demonstrative pronouns .

Second, the training will aim at introducing students to the cultural features of

Russian: greetings, introductions, thanking, asking questions like Who is this?,

What is this?, Who are you?, etc.

During the course the students will learn about the chemical composition of the human body

and the basic biochemical reactions within it. They will learn about the diagnostic significance

of some of the most common clinical-biochemistry parameters.

During the practical exercises, students will learn the basic principles of the work in

biochemical laboratory and how to perform some of the qualitative and quantitative

biochemical analyses.

Theoretical units

1. Definition of the biochemistry. Phases of the work process in a clinical-biochemistry

laboratory.

2. Water and minerals: Sodium, potassium, chlorides, bicarbonates. Acid-base balance.

3. Proteins1: Amino acids. Peptides. Proteins. Basics of the metabolism of the proteins.

Urea.

4. Proteins 2: Proteins in blood plasma. Hemoglobin: role, chemical structure and

catabolism. Bilirubin.

5. Enzymes 1: Properties of the enzymes. Nomenclature and classification. Active center.

Kinetics of the enzyme reactions.

6. Enzymes 2: Basics of the clinical enzymology. Diagnostic significance of some enzymes.

7. Lipids 1: Properties and classification of the lipids.

8. Lipids 2: Basics of the metabolism of the lipids. Lipoproteins in the blood plasma.

9. Carbohydrates 1: Monosaccharides. Oligosaccharides. Polysaccharides.

10. Carbohydrates 2: Basics of the metabolism of the carbohydrates. oGTT and

glycosylated haemoglobin.

11. Nucleic acids.

12. Vitamins: Properties and classification.

Practical exercises

1. Basic principles of protection during the work in biochemistry laboratory.

2. Collection of venous and capillary blood samples. Prevention of errors in the pre-analytic

phase.

3. Pipetting techniques. Photometry techniques.

4. Proteins 1: Precipitation and denaturation of the proteins.

5. Proteins 2: Qualitative and quantitative determination of the total proteins by the biuret

6. Enzymes: Influence of the activators and inhibitors on the activity of the amylaze in the

saliva.

7. Lipids 1: Solubility of the lipids. Determination of cholesterol according to the method of

Salkowski.

8. Lipids 2: Determination of the concentration of the total cholesterol in serum (enzyme

quantitative method).

9. Lipids 3: Determination of the concentration of the triacylglycerols in serum (enzyme

quantitative method).

10. Carbohydrates 1: Fehling reaction. Determination of the concentration of glucose in

serum by GOD-PAP method.

11. Carbohydrates 2: Determination of the concentration of the glucose by the method of

hexokinase.

12. Carbohydrates 3: Glucose meter. Determinating of the concentration of glucose and

ketone bodies in urine.

Basic aim of the course program is acquisition of theoretical, practical knowledge, skills

and competences in field of microbiology

11. Course contents:

1. Introduction of history and development of microbiology science,

significance of microorganisms. Classification of bacteria, taxonomic

categories, nomenclature, size, shape and disposition of bacteria

2. Morphology and structure of bacterial cells: capsule, cell wall, cytoplasmic

membrane, cytoplasm and cytoplasmic inclusions, fimbrae and pili,

flagellum, bacterial spores, bacterial movement. Conditions for growth and

multiplication, growth phases, bacterial colonies

3. Chemical composition of bacteria, metabolism, mechanism of bacterial

feeding, metabolism of energy

4. Metabolism of nucleic acids. DNA replication. Nucleic acids decomposition

Bacterial genetics. Bacterial phenotype and genotype variations. Gene

transfer

5. Spreading of microorganisms. Associations of microorganisms.

Pathogenicity and virulence. Infections and infective diseases. Nonspecific

10. Course objectives (competencies): Teaching units contribute primarily to development

of the following general and specific competences: Understanding the role of the nurse

not only as performance of duty but as mandatory input of love and compassion when

working with patients; understanding the role of the nurse during admission procedures

of the sick, hospital bed preparation and changing bed sheets; during physical

measurements; during emergency procedures; familiarisation wirh various types of

diets for different disease; measuring temperature and reading temperature curves;

taking the pulse and blood pressure; preparing the patient for diagnostic tests and

ability to do catheterization; giving parenteral and intravenous injections; knowledge of

the sources of infection and measures for personal protection; mode of treatment for

anaphylactic shock, collapse and coma; placement and care of the operated patients;

nourishing terminally ill; recognition of signs of dying and diagnosing death.

Familiarization with the content and importance of the subject Health Care;

Organization of hospitals and hospital service;

Hospital room, hospital bed and hospital cover;

Admission of the patients (new and emergency patients);

Nutrition of the sick, body hygiene of the patient and maintenance of the patient’s good

mood;

Observation of the sick, their vital signs, and their relationships;

Diagnostic examinations of the patients;

Control of defecation, urination and treatment in case of vomiting;

Storage and delivery of drugs;

Injectable drugs in the body;

Prevention and protection against infection;

Medical and tehnical operations during which the nurse assists the physician;

Actions in case of anaphylactic shock, collapse, coma and acute respiratory failure

(ARI);

Care of surgical patients;

Care of the elderly, chronically ill and the dying patients;

Professions and professionalization of medical practice;

Alternative Medicine;
