Nowadays, the use of technology has developed in the educational world.

Students and teacher could utilize technology in their teaching learning process.

One way to do is by applying technology as their media in teaching learning

process, WhatsApp group is one of the many kinds of technology that can be used

in the educational world.

This study aims at identifying the students’ perception of the use of WhatsApp

group of online learning; and examining the students’ barrier in doing online

learning by using WhatsApp group. To answer these questions, the researcher

employed a survey research to 30 students and interview to 5 students of the

Seventh semester students of English Education Department. The questionnaire

consisted close-ended question.

The findings are indicated that the students have neutral perception toward the

online learning by using WhatsApp group. Because WhatsApp can help them in

the teaching and learning process during the pandemic era, but they also have

some difficulties in online learning by using WhatsApp group. In summary, the

perception of the students on online learning by using WhatsApp group is neutral.

Therefore, the researcher hopes social media to applied for the students to use

social media as a tool of learning efficiently. the researcher suggests for teacher to

explain the material by sending a video to the group not only explaining by

written text. So, lecturer can anticipate the problem when the teaching online

class.

Saat ini, penggunaan teknologi telah berkembang pesat dalam dunia

pendidikan. Siswa dan guru dapat memanfaatkan teknologi dalam proses belajar

mengajar mereka. Salah satunya dengan mengaplikasikan teknologi sebagai

media dalam proses belajar mengajar. WhatsApp merupakan salah satu dari

sekian banyak jenis teknologi yang dapat digunakan dalam dunia pendidikan.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengidentifikasi persepsi mahasiswa tentang

penggunaan WhatsApp grup dalam proses pembelajaran online; dan megetahui

hambatan yang di hadapi siswa dalam melakukan pembelajaran oline

menggunakan WhatsApp grup. Untuk menjawab pertanyaan tersebut peneliti

melakukan survey terhadap 30 mahasiswa dan wawancara terhadap 5 mahasiswa

semester VII jurusan pendidikan Bahasa Inggris. Survey kuisioner terdiri dari

pertanyaan tertutup.

Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa mahasiswa memiliki persepsi yang

neutral terhadap pembelajaran online menggunakan grup WhatsApp. Hal ini

dikarenakan WhatsApp dapat membantu mahasiswa dalam proses pemelajaran

daring selama masa pandemi, tetapi mereka juga mempunyai beberapa hambatan

dalam pembelajaran online sengan menggunakan grup WhatsApp. Singkatnya,

persepsi mahasiswa terhadap pembelajaran online dengan menggnakan grup

WhatsApp adalah netral.

Pada akhir penelitian ini, peneliti berharap sosial media dapat di gunakan siswa

sebagai alat pembelajaran Bahasa Inggris yang efektif. Peneliti juga memberi

saran kepada guru, agar menyertakan gamapar ataupun vidio saat pebelajar online,

agar lebih mudah dipahami oleh mahasiswa.
