Task 1

Watch the following video and read the text below about Recount text carefully.

Recount Text

Recount text is a text which retells events or experiences in the past. Its purpose is either to inform or to

entertain the audience.

Generic Structure of Recount Text:

1. Orientation: Introducing the participants, place and time.

2. Events: Describing series of event that happened in the past.

3. Reorientation: It is optional. Stating personal comment of the writer to the story.

Language Feature of Recount Text:

1. Introducing personal participant; I, my group, etc.

2. Using chronological connection; then, first, etc.

3. Using linking verb; was, were, saw, heard, etc.

4. Using action verb; look, go, change, etc.

5. Using Simple past tense.

Example of Recount Text:Orientation: On Friday, I went to the Blue Mountain. I stayed at Calum’s House.Events: On Saturday, we went on the scenic railway. It was scary. Then, I went shopping with Calum. We went to some antique shops and I tried on some old hats.Reorientation: In the afternoon, we went home.

Going to Sanur Beach

Last holiday my family and I (1.___) to Bali to have a picnic. We went there by plane. Wewere in Bali for six days, so we had to stay in a hotel because we didn’t have any relatives there.We (2.____) in Bali beach hotel near Sanur.

When we came to the hotel, we didn’t come to our room directly but we have to check infirst. We were received by the receptionists who were friendly and kind, and then we were helpedby a (3.____) boy who took us to our rooms.

On the second day, we visit Sanur beach. We just took a walk because the beach is infront of the hotel. My brother and I walked along the (4.______), played water and sand.Actually, we also want to swim in the beach but the life guard didn’t allow us.

Besides doing many activities, we also watched some foreign tourists’ activities. Theywere lying on the beach, while others were having massage or (5._____). When we felt tired, wetook a rest to have some meals and drinks; we went to the hotel at 2.0 p.m.

It was tiring but we were happy.
