I have been blessed in being able to help others in need. Being a female and working in this field is not easy, however, when I’m able to help a family that is having a really bad day I feel like it has all been worth it. The Delaware County Police Academy prepared me in ways that I could have never imagined. Due to the training I received at the police academy, I am to handle emergency situations as they occur. For example, I’ve helped save several lives through suicide prevention and administering CPR. I’ve also had to overcome a couple of hurdles during my career. On one occasion, I suffered a devastating injury that resulted in me being unable to walk for a year. However, through intense physical rehabilitation I was able to return to the streets as a law enforcement officer. I’m happy to say I’ve been back to work for 10 years now and I’m thankful every day that I had the courage to follow my dream. Currently, I work for the Chester Housing Police Department for the last four years. I’m now a Shift Supervisor and Field Training Officer. I’m in charge of maintenance of all patrol vehicles and handle my own investigations. I am truly thankful and blessed and I hope to continue to encourage others.

I have always wanted to be a Police Officer ever since I was a small child. I was always told that

“girls are not police officers” by my mother. I never had much

support, when I was younger, with my dream to become a police

officer. After having three children in my twenties, I became a beauty consultant and worked in a

corporate office for several years making a decent pay. I was

never really happy doing what everyone else wanted me to do so at the age of thirty-five, I quit

my great paying job and enrolled in the Delaware County Police

Academy. As you can imagine this did not go over very well with

my family or husband. My kids were upset and my mother did not speak to me for a period of time

due to the fear of the unknown.

I graduated from the Police Academy at DCCC in December 2011 in good standing. I was

blessed with several job offers and opportunities. Needless to

say, my family is proud of my accomplishments and persistence

to follow my dream of becoming a police officer. I have three beautiful children, and they, along

with my mother and husband are very proud of all that I have

accomplished and the way I have been able to rise above challenges.

I have been blessed in being

able to help others in need. Being a female and working in this field is not easy, however,

when I’m able to help a family that is having a really bad day I

feel like it has all been worth it.

The Delaware County Police

Academy prepared me in ways that I could have never

imagined. Due to the training I received at the police academy,

I am to handle emergency situations as they occur. For example, I’ve helped save

several lives through suicide prevention and administering

CPR.

I’ve also had to overcome a

couple of hurdles during my

career. On one occasion, I suffered a devastating injury that resulted in me being

unable to walk for a year. However, through intense

physical rehabilitation I was able to return to the streets as

a law enforcement officer. I’m happy to say I’ve been back to work for 10 years now

and I’m thankful every day that I had the courage to

follow my dream.

Currently, I work for the

Chester Housing Police Department for the last four

years. I’m now a Shift Supervisor and Field Training

Officer. I’m in charge of maintenance of all patrol vehicles and handle my own

investigations. I am truly thankful and blessed and I

hope to continue to encourage others.

Danica McKellar

(b. January 3, 1975)

Even without playing the

eternally crush-worthy

Winnie Cooper on the late

1980s dramedy The

Wonder Years, Danica

McKellar would be

noteworthy. She is a

bestselling author,

internationally recognized

mathematician and role

model for girls who just

want to have fun—with

numbers.

McKellar graduated

summa cum laude from

UCLA with a mathematics

degree. In 1997, she co-

authored the Chayes-

McKellar-Winn Theorem, a

physics-based hybrid

honored in the British

Journal of Physics.

With her degree in hand,

McKellar returned to the

small screen, playing a

recurring role in the

political drama The West

Wing. Determined to

combine her two loves, she

began writing textbooks for

girls that interrupt the

stereotype of the socially

awkward math nerd. All

three of her titles, Math

Doesn’t Suck (2007), Kiss

My Math (2008) and Hot X:

Algebra Exposed (2010)

were New York Times

bestsellers. Her fourth

effort, Girls Get Curves:

Geometry Takes Shape is

due out in August 2012.

In addition to her roles on

The Wonder Years and The

West Wing, McKellar the

math diva has appeared on

How I Met Your Mother

and The Big Bang Theory

and she’s been in more than

30 films.

“I’ve always had two sides to

my personality,” the new

mother has said. “On the one

hand I love logic and math

and puzzles. On the other, I

just love to entertain people.

I have an instinct to tell

human stories.”
