I applied to HiA because I understood it would offer me a worldly perspective to expand my knowledge on human rights, and empower me to take action and create social change.” Brandon Brown Hollywood, FL Family & Child Sciences The Florida Gubernatorial Fellowship- Tallahassee, FL Humanity in Action’s John Lewis Fellowship- Atlanta, GA “As an aspiring attorney interested in civil rights law, the introspective process of writing personal statements, exploring my passions, and breaking down my reasons for applying helped me learn I would love to work on behalf of the people. The intellectual spaces provided by HiA and the Gubernatorial Fellowship will be invaluable as I learn from a variety of renowned speakers, activists, and politicians.” Kelly Ramirez Pahokee, FL English & International Affairs Fulbright ETA- Guadalajara, Mexico “After my Fulbright experience, I hope to have a better understanding of Mexico’s public school system in order to compare it with that of the United States. This will allow me to improve the cultural competence of teachers and the over- all educational experience of students who face language and cultural barriers, and will help me reach my goal of working for the Office of English Language Acquisition.” Since the inception of the Office of National Fellowships in the spring of 2005, students have won over 300 nationally competitive awards, including 3 prestigious Rhodes Scholarships, 4 Truman Scholar- ships, 1 Schwarzman Scholarship, 1 Gates-Cambridge Scholarship, 9 Goldwater Scholarships, 20 Hollings Scholarships, and 104 Fulbright Stdent Scholarships.
