Self-Assessment
Self-assessment, an internally motivated process, used to gain informed perspectives on the strengths and deficiencies of services and to plan for improvements. The process provides an assessment tool using the CAS Standards and Guidelines, the current generally accepted standards of practice.
The procedures involve the following steps:
Establish and prepare the self-assessment review team Understand the CAS Standards and Guidelines. Compile and review documentary evidence. Judge performance using assessment criterion Complete the assessment process using two-tiered
(individual and group) judgment approach for determining the extent to which the program meets the CAS standards.
Documentary Evidence Participant recruitment and marketing materials: brochures, policies and
procedures, program reports, participant evaluations.
Program documents: catalogs, brochures, manuals, policy and procedures, evaluation and periodic reports, contracts, memos
Institutional Administrative Documents: program purpose and philosophy statements, organizational charts, financial resource statements, student and staff profiles, assessment reports.
Research, Assessment and Evaluation Data: needs assessments, follow-up studies, program evaluations, outcome measures and methodologies, self-study reports
Student Activity Reports: transcripts, portfolios, reports of student accomplishments, employer reports
