Project Goals

To make an assessment of the fees that are charged to students by neighboring school districts and school districts similar to Bay around Ohio.

To complete a survey of parents of Bay Village high school students with respect to student fees.

LTEI FY ’10 is the Local Tax EffortIndex for the fiscal year 2010.It is an index calculated from schoolincome taxes, property taxes, districtmedian income and state medianincome. It is a measure of the effortdistrict residents make to support education. The higher the numberthe greater the effort.

728 emails sent out representing 1016 students in grades 8 – 12

35% response from those emailed (255 responses)

45% of the respondents added comments (115 comments)

87% of the respondents said they will have a child at Bay High next year

coaches – 2.08 on the 1 – 4 scale Second choice – charge a $50 - $100

fee per activity – 2.20 on the 1 – 4 scale Third choice – reduce the number of

contests and events – 2.27 (1- 4 scale) Last choice – reduce the number of

athletic teams, music groups and clubs 3.56 (1 – 4 scale)

participate if a fee were charged

37% said they were less likely to participate if a fee were charged

31 respondents made a point to express how very important activities are for students

25 commented they were against the concept of charging fees

23 commented that a reasonable fee would be acceptable

21 opined that the high taxes in Bay Village should cover the cost of student activities
