• KFC first opened its doors to the Kenyan market in 2011. Since then the franchise has spread across Nairobi, even going as far as opening Nairobi's first Drive Thru'. Colonel Sanders' Original Recipe® along with the Extra Crispy™ chicken has made its way from Kentucky all the way to The Junction, Westlands, Galleria, Garden City, Mombasa Road, Kimathi Street and now Mama Ngina Street!

Idea

• The only thing with about as much heritage as KFC when it comes to chicken, is our all time favourite riddle “Why did the chicken cross the road?” For this branch opening however, we will put a little 254 twist to it by instead asking: Why did the chicken cross Mama Ngina Street?

• Kenyans are a crazy, creative lot. They are even crazier on social media so we will run this campaign both on radio and online. With this winning combination, we will be able to pull off a launch campaign with the potential to go viral!

On-Air Mechanic

Adelle is BIG on social media! Her mid-morning show is equally BIG on social media engagement and interaction.

• Consequently this will run on Adelle's mid-morning show for 1 week.

• Adelle will whet the listeners' appetite for some finger lickin' good chicken by talking up KFC and what they have on their menu. She will also give directions to the new KFC branch along Mama Ngina Street.

• Adelle will then crank up the humour by cracking a few why did the chicken cross the road jokes. Afterwards she will pose the question, “Why Did The Chicken Cross Mama Ngina Street?”

• Eligible responses will be tweeted under the hashtag #WhyDidTheChickenCrossMamaNginaStreet. All eligible responses have to tag @ADELLEO and @KFCinKenya

• She will read the funniest tweet on-air and reward that person with a voucher to go share a bucket of the 21-piece Jumbo (plus drinks) with their pals at KFC Mama Ngina.

On Ground Mechanic

We will cap off this entire campaign with an on-ground activation on the day of the grand opening. Shaffie Weru will be at Mama Ngina Street broadcasting live from the new KFC branch.

He will sync with Adelle who is in studio in order to let people know what's happening at the new branch as well as drive footfall to the branch.

Our screen truck will be parked strategically outside KFC Mama Ngina, showing images and videos of the finger lickin' good treats inside. It will also be broadcasting Adelle's mid-morning show on a PAS in order to convey what's happening on-air to the passers-by along Mama Ngina Street.

Shaffie will try out a couple of people's sense of humour with the “Why Did the Chicken Cross Mama Ngina Street” riddle and reward them with vouchers redeemable at the branch.
