Pre-installation informationRETAIN THESE INSTRUCTIONS FOR FUTURE REFERENCE.

Measure the height and width of the door opening even with the brickmold asshown in the illustration. Use the smallest width measurement to determinethe opening width. Compare your door opening height and width with thesize chart to choose the appropriate size of your new storm doors. If theopening does not fall within any of these limits, it will be necessary to reworkthe door jamb. You may wish to consult a professional carpenter to do so.

Measure A: The depth of the doorwaymust be a minimum of 2-1/2". This isrequired for handle clearance.Measure B: The mounting area foryour storm door must be a minimum of1"x1". This space is required forsecure installation.

2. PREPARE DOUBLE DOOR RAIN CAP (INCLUDED IN ASTRAGAL KIT):A. A 2” center slot must be cut out of the rain cap. For a left hand fixed door installation,measure 36” from the left end. Mark a cutting line. Measure over from this line anadditional 2” for the slot and mark another line.

B. For a right hand fixed door installation, measure 36” from the right end. Mark a cuttingline. Measure over from this line an additional 2” for the slot and mark another line.

C. Cut the slot all the way to the vertical leg with a hack saw. Now use pliers to bend thecut piece back and forth until it breaks off. Use a metal file to smooth any rough edges.

D. The ends of the rain cap have been pre-notched to fit a 36” double doorway. If you are installing two (2) 36"doors, proceed to Step 3. If not, you will need to cut off a portion of the rain cap. Refer to the formula below tocalculate the length to be cut off from each end of the rain cap. You will find the door width on the sidelabel located on the carton the door was packaged in.

E. This newly cut end will need to be re-notched to match the previous design. Save theend you cut off and use it as a guide to cut the two notches into the shortened rain cap asshown.

F. Measure 1 1/8" in from each end of the rain cap. Mark a line from the pile track leg tothe vertical leg and cut a slot all the way to the vertical leg with a hacksaw. Now use pliersto bend the cut piece back and forth until it breaks off.

G. Next, cut a 3/4" notch out of the pile track leg in the same manner as the 1 1/8" notchwas just removed. Use a metal file to smooth any rough edges.

A. The astragal kit has been designed for either a left or right handed functioning door. From theoutside, determine which door you want fixed (stationary) and which door you want functioning.Position one door in door opening to match your fixed door preference. Mark top of fixed door withtape for reference. Be sure name plate bracket side faces the exterior.

B. While fixed door is in door opening, hold inside handle (from the handle set parts box) in place tomake sure it will not interfere with the handles of your entry doors. If your handles interfere, it may benecessary to rework your door opening. You may wish to consult a professional carpenter to do so.

Weight of window and door unit(s) and accessories will vary. Use a reasonable number of people with sufficient strength to lift, carry, and install windowand door unit(s) and accessories. Always use appropriate lifting techniques. Failure to do so may result in injury.

A. Position the rain cap at the top of the door against the head jamb andbrickmold and centered between the door jambs.

B. Holding the rain cap in place, drill a 1/8” pilot hole through the mountinghole on one end of the rain cap and install a #8 x 1” screw.

C. Keeping the rain cap level across the door opening, fasten the raincap on the opposite end. Now finish drilling pilot holes and installing #8x 1” screws in the remaining holes.

4. INSTALL FIXED DOOR:Refer to the owner's installation guide that has been packed with your door to install the fixed door. When installingthe fixed door, DO NOT complete the following steps:

• Install Rain Cap

• Secure Rain Cap

• Cut and Install Latch/Handle Side Z-bar

• Install Strikers (Handle set instructions)

• Install Screw Covers

These steps are not needed, have already been completed or will be completed at a later time.

5. INSTALL FUNCTIONING DOOR:A. Refer to the owner's instruction manual that has been packed with your door to finish installing thefunctioning door. When installing your functioning door DO NOT complete the following steps:

•Install Rain Cap

•Secure Rain Cap

•Cut and Install Latch Side Z-bar

• Install Spring Loaded Striker (Handle set instructions)

These steps are not needed, have already been completed or will be completed at a later time.

B. When completing “Install Screw Covers” step, install a long Z-bar screw cover in the double door rain cap.

When placing the functioning door into the opening, make sure the gap between the doors at thetop is the same as the gap at the bottom. Refer to Step 8 for required gap needed between doorswhen installing the astragal.

6. CUT ASTRAGAL TO LENGTH:A. Determine which end is the top of the astragal. The vertical leg of the astragal should be facing the inside of thedoor. Mark the top with a piece of tape.

B. Measure the distance from the underside of the rain cap to the top of the door sill and subtract 1/8”. This will be yourcut length for the astragal. Measure the cut length down from the top of the astragal and mark a cutting line. Using ahacksaw cut the astragal to length.

C. Slide astragal onto the fixed door to make sure it fits between the rain cap and the door sill. Remove astragal fromdoor.

NOTE: If the fixed door will not close completely, check for interference from the inside, between the astragal and thedoor sill. It may be necessary to notch the astragal.

7. ATTACH SLIDE BOLTS:A. Place a slide bolt at one end of the astragal on the side with the vertical leg.When the slide bolt is retracted, the end of the bolt housing should be flush with theend of the astragal.

B. Mark the location of the holes (slide the bolt to reveal both holes) and drill two (2)3/32" pilot holes.

C. Fasten the slide bolt with the screws provided. Be sure the screws are completelycountersunk so that the slide bolt functions properly.

D. Repeat this procedure for attaching the slide bolt at the bottom of the astragal.

9. INSTALL SLIDE BOLT STRIKERS:

A. Install the striker at the top first. Close the door so that the weather pile on the rain cap is slightlycompressed. Holding the door in this position, slide the bolt up until it contacts the door headerjamb. Trace around the bolt with a pencil.

B. Determine which of the two types of strikers will work best for your particular application.Position the striker over the traced line and mark the location of the mounting holes with a pencil.Drill two 3/32" pilot holes for the mounting screws. Drill and/or chisel a recess of approximately 3/4"deep into the door header jamb for the bolt to slide into. Attach the striker with the screws provided.Check to be sure that the bolt passes through the striker. Adjust if necessary.

C. Close the door and lock the slide bolt at the top. Using a level, move the bottom of the door in orout slightly until the door is vertical. With the door in this position, mark and install the slide boltstriker on the door sill in the same manner as the door header jamb striker. Check to make surethat both slide bolts function correctly. Adjust if necessary.

8. INSTALL ASTRAGAL:A. Slide the astragal over the edge of the fixed door. Close both doors and adjust the gap betweenthe astragal and the functioning door by referring to the chart below. The gap at the bottom must bethe same as the gap at the top.

B. Screws are not needed to install theastragal. Adjust the astragal vertically sothat the space between the rain cap and thetop of the door sill is equal.

10. INSTALL ASTRAGAL SHIM AND SPRING STRIKER:

A. With both doors closed, lock the functioning door with thedeadbolt. Position the spring striker and astragal shim on theastragal leg by centering the spring striker and astragal shimvertically with the notch on the spring striker. Then center them tothe inside latch.

B. Using a pencil, mark two lines on the astragal leg at the top andbottom of the astragal shim. Continue the lines to the backside ofthe astragal leg.

C. Measure over 1/2” from the edge of the astragal leg and make amark on the top and bottom lines. From the mark on the top line,make a mark 1/2" below the line. From the mark on the bottom line,make a mark 1/2” above the line. Note: Make sure that the screwsyou are about to use will not interfere with the four screws used tomount the spring striker, by holding the spring striker on the backside of the astragal leg.

D. Drill 7/64" pilot holes on the marks through the astragal leg.Holding the astragal shim in position, mark the astragal shimthrough the pilot holes just drilled.Drill 7/64" pilot holes through theastragal shim on the marks.

E. Hold the astragal shim in positionon the astragal leg and install two#8x1/2" screws.

F. Finish installing the spring strikerusing the instructions provided withthe handle set.

11. CHECK DOOR FOR CONTACT:A. If the edge of the door appears to be warped or bent and does not contact the weatherstripping onthe astragal or rain cap, it can easily be remedied by “flexing” the door.

B. Simply wrap a towel or cloth around a small section of a 2” x 4” and then insert it between the doorand the astragal. Press firmly on the affected corner while holding the opposite corner in place.Check the door for fit and repeat Step 11A & B if necessary.

12. APPLY CAULKING:A. Caulk between the Z-bars and door jamb. Itis also recommended to caulk between the raincap and top of the door opening.

REGULAR MAINTENANCE:WINDOW GLASS- The glass may be cleaned with any household glass cleaner. Keep glass cleaners away from painted parts and brass components,ammonia based cleaners will tarnish brass.

PLASTIC PARTS- Plastic door components may be cleaned in the following manner: Use a mild soap and water mixture and gently rub the affected area. Donot use harsh abrasives or any product that contains chlorine.

ALUMINUM PARTS- Aluminum parts on the door may be cleaned in the following manner: Use a mild soap and water mixture and gently rub the affected area.Mineral spirits may be used and will not harm the paint. This will remove many items such as glue residue. Do not use harsh abrasives or any product thatcontains chlorine.

BRASS COMPONENTS- The brass hardware on all doors may be cleaned in the following manner: The brass handles and components (except caming onwindows) are coated with a clear urethane finish which protects the brass from tarnishing. In order to clean the brass, this coating will have to be removed. Upondoing this, a larger area of brass will be exposed and subject to weathering. Use a high quality brass polish according to the specific directions on that product.A clear urethane may be reapplied to the clean surface to protect the finish. NOTE: Keep all products which contain chlorine away from brasscomponents.

BRASS FINISHED SWEEPS- The brass finished sweep may be cleaned with a mild solution of soap and water.

Compare la altura y el ancho de laabertura de la puerta con el gráfico de medidas para seleccionar la medidaadecuada para sus nuevas puertas contra intemperie. Si la abertura nocorresponde a ninguno de estos límites, será necesario refabricar la jambade la puerta. Puede consultar a un carpintero profesional para hacerlo.

2. PREPARAR LA TAPA PARA LLUVIA DE LA PUERTA DOBLE (INCLUIDA EN EL KIT DE ASTRÁGALO):A. En la tapa para lluvia, se debe cortar una ranura central de 2". Para colocar una puerta

fija del lado izquierdo, mida 36" desde el extremo izquierdo. Marque una línea de corte.Mida por encima de esta línea 2" adicionales para la ranura y marque otra línea.

B. Para colocar una puerta fija del lado derecho, mida 36" desde el extremo derecho.Marque una línea de corte. Mida por encima de esta línea 2" adicionales para la ranuray marque otra línea.

C. Con una sierra de arco, corte la ranura hasta llegar a la pata vertical. Emplee la pinzapara curvar la pieza que cortó hacia atrás y hacia adelante hasta que se separe. Use una lima de metalpara suavizar los bordes ásperos.

D. Los extremos de la tapa para lluvia ya vienen con muescas para que se adapten a una entrada doble de36". Si usted está colocando dos (2) puertas de 36", prosiga con el Paso 3. De no ser así, será preciso quecorte una parte de la tapa para lluvia. Consulte la fórmula que se incluye más abajo para calcular la longitudque deberá cortar de cada extremo de la tapa para lluvia. Encontrará el ancho de la puerta en la etiquetalateral situada en la caja en la cual fue embalada la puerta.

E. Será necesario que vuelva a marcar las muescas en este extremo que acaba de cortarpara que concuerden con el diseño anterior. Conserve el extremo que cortó y úselocomo guía para cortar las dos muescas en la tapa para lluvia acortada tal como seindica.

F. Mida 1 1/8" hacia el interior desde cada extremo de la tapa para lluvia. Marque unalínea desde la pata de la guía del burlete hasta la pata vertical y corte una ranura haciala pata vertical con una sierra de arco. Emplee la pinza para curvar la pieza que cortó hacia atrás y haciaadelante hasta que se separe.

G. A continuación, haga una muesca de 3/4" en la pata de la guía del burlete similar a la muesca de 1 1/8" queacaba de retirar. Use una lima de metal para suavizar los bordes ásperos.

A. El kit de astrágalo fue diseñado para una puerta con apertura tanto de la hoja derecha como de laizquierda. Desde afuera determine qué puerta desea que quede fija (estática) y qué puerta deseaque se abra. Disponga una de las puertas en la abertura de la puerta para que concuerde con lapuerta que prefiere que quede fija. Marque la parte superior de la puerta fija con cinta comoreferencia. Asegúrese de que el lateral del soporte de la placa de nombre mire hacia el exterior.

B. Mientras la puerta fija está en la abertura de la puerta, sostenga la manija interior (de la caja departes del juego de manijas) en su lugar, para asegurarse de que no interfiera con las manijas desu puerta de entrada. Si sus manijas interfieren, probablemente sea necesario que adapte laabertura de la puerta. Puede consultar a un carpintero profesional para hacerlo.

El peso de las ventanas y puertas y de los accesorios puede variar. Cuente con una cantidad razonable de personas con suficiente fuerza para levantar,transportar e instalar las ventanas, las puertas y los accesorios. Siempre aplique las técnicas adecuadas para levantar. Si no lo hace, puede sufrir lesiones.

El acero se corroerá cuando se lo use con madera tratada a presión ACQ. 5. INSTALAR LA PUERTA QUE SE ABRE:A. Consulte la guía de instalación del propietario embalada con su puerta para terminar de instalar la puerta

que se abre. Cuando instale la puerta que se abre, NO siga los pasos detallados a continuación:

• Instalar la tapa para lluvia

• Asegurar la tapa para lluvia

• Cortar e instalar el perfil en Z del lado de la cerradura

• Colocar el tope con resorte (Instrucciones del juego de manijas)

Estos pasos no son necesarios, ya se los siguió o se seguirán más adelante.

B. Cuando haya completado el paso "Instalar las tapas de los tornillos", instale una tapa de tornillo del perfilen Z largo en la tapa para lluvia de la puerta doble.

Cuando disponga la puerta que se abre en la abertura, asegúrese de que el espacio entre laspuertas en la parte superior sea el mismo que en la parte inferior. Consulte el Paso 8 parasaber qué espacio se requiere entre las puertas cuando coloque el astrágalo.

6. CORTAR EL ASTRÁGALO A LA LONGITUD ADECUADA:A. Determine qué extremo es la parte superior del astrágalo. La pata vertical del astrágalo debe quedar mirando hacia

el interior de la puerta. Marque la parte superior con un trozo de cinta.

B. Mida la distancia desde la parte de abajo de la tapa para lluvia hasta la parte superior del umbral de la puerta yréstele 1/8". Ésta será la longitud de corte adecuada para el astrágalo. Mida la longitud de corte desde la partesuperior del astrágalo y marque la línea de corte. Empleando una sierra de arco, corte el astrágalo a la longitudadecuada.

C. Deslice el astrágalo sobre la puerta fija para cerciorarse de que calza bien entre la tapa para lluvia y el umbral de lapuerta. Retire el astrágalo de la puerta.

NOTA: Si la puerta fija no cierra por completo, verifique si hay algo que interfieredesde el interior, entre el astrágalo y el umbral de la puerta. Tal vez tenga quehacerle una muesca al astrágalo.

7. COLOCAR LOS PESTILLOS DESLIZANTES:A. Coloque un pestillo deslizante en uno de los extremos del astrágalo del lado que

tenga la pata vertical. Cuando el pestillo esté retraído, el extremo del hueco delpestillo debe estar nivelado con el extremo del astrágalo.

B. Marque dónde estarán ubicados los orificios (deslice el pestillo para que ambosorificios queden expuestos) y haga dos (2) orificios piloto de 3/32".

C. Sujete el pestillo deslizante con los tornillos provistos. Asegúrese de que lostornillos queden completamente encastrados de modo tal que el pestillo deslizantefuncione adecuadamente.

D. Repita este procedimiento para colocar el pestillo deslizante en la parte inferiordel astrágalo.

9. INSTALAR TOPES DE LOS PESTILLOS DESLIZANTES:

A. Instale el tope de la parte superior primero. Cierre la puerta de modo tal que el burlete de latapa para lluvia quede ligeramente comprimido. Mientras mantiene la puerta en esta posición,deslice el pestillo hasta que haga contacto con la jamba principal de la puerta. Dibuje elcontorno del pestillo con un lápiz.

B. Determine cuál de los dos tipos de topes funcionará mejor para el uso que le dará. Coloque eltope sobre la línea dibujada y marque la ubicación de los orificios de montaje con un lápiz. Hagados orificios piloto de 3/32" para los tornillos de montaje. Haga un orificio y/o taladre un huecode aproximadamente 3/4" de profundidad en la jamba principal de la puerta en donde puedaingresar el pestillo. Coloque el tope con los tornillos provistos. Verifique que el pestillo pase através del tope. Haga ajustes si fuera necesario.

C. Cierre la puerta y trabe con el pestillo deslizante de la parte superior. Usando un nivel, muevalevemente la parte inferior de la puerta hacia adentro y hacia afuera hasta que la puerta quedeen posición vertical. Con la puerta en esta posición, marque e instale el tope del pestillodeslizante en el umbral de la puerta de la misma manera que lo hizo con el tope de la jambaprincipal de la puerta. Verifique que ambos pestillos deslizantes funcionen correctamente. Hagaajustes si fuera necesario.

8. INSTALAR EL ASTRÁGALO:A. Deslice el astrágalo por el borde de la puerta fija. Cierre ambas puertas y ajuste el espacio entre el

10. INSTALAR LA CUÑA DEL ASTRÁGALO Y EL TOPE CON RESORTE:

A. Con ambas puertas cerradas, trabe la puerta que abre con elcerrojo muerto. Coloque el tope con resorte y la cuña delastrágalo en la pata del astrágalo centrando el pestillo conresorte y la cuña del astrágalo en posición vertical con la muescasobre el tope con resorte. A continuación, céntrelos respecto dela cerradura interior.

B. Usando un lápiz, marque dos líneas sobre la pata del astrágaloen la parte superior y en la parte inferior de la cuña del astrágalo.Continúe las líneas hacia la parte posterior de la pata delastrágalo.

C. Mida 1/2" por encima del borde de la pata del astrágalo y hagauna marca en la línea superior y en la inferior. Desde de lamarca en la línea superior, haga una marca 1/2" por debajo de lalínea. Desde de la marca en la línea inferior, haga una marca1/2" por encima de la línea. Nota: sosteniendo el tope conresorte en la parte posterior de la pata del astrágalo, asegúresede que los tornillos que vaya a usar no interfieran con los cuatrotornillos usados para fijar el tope con resorte.

D. Haga orificios piloto de 7/64" enlas marcas a través de la pata delastrágalo. Manteniendo la cuña delastrágalo en su sitio, márquela através de los orificios piloto queacaba de hacer. Haga orificiospiloto de 7/64" en las marcas através de la cuña del astrágalo.

E. Mantenga la cuña del astrágalo ensu sitio, en la pata del astrágalo, y coloque dos tornillos #8x1/2".

F. Siga las instrucciones provistas conel juego de manijas para terminarde instalar el tope con resorte.

11. VERIFICAR QUE LA PUERTA HAGA CONTACTO:A. Si parece que el borde de la puerta está combado o curvado y no hace contacto con el burlete en

el astrágalo o en la tapa para lluvia, esto se puede remediar con facilidad “doblando” la puerta.

B. Simplemente envuelva una pequeña sección del bloque de 2" x 4" con una toalla o un paño y, acontinuación, introdúzcalo entre la puerta y el astrágalo. Presione con firmeza la esquina afectadamientras sostiene la esquina opuesta en su lugar. Verifique que la puerta calce bien y repita elPaso 11A y B si fuera necesario.

12. APLICAR MASILLA:A. Coloque masilla entre los perfiles en Z y la

jamba de la puerta. También se recomiendaque coloque masilla entre la tapa para lluviay la parte superior de la abertura de lapuerta.

MANTENIMIENTO REGULAR:VIDRIO DE LA VENTANA – El vidrio puede limpiarse con cualquier limpiador para vidrios de uso doméstico. Mantenga los limpiadores para vidrio lejos de laspartes pintadas y los componentes de latón, los limpiadores a base de amoníaco mancharán el latón.

PARTES DE PLÁSTICO – Los componentes de plástico de la puerta pueden limpiarse de la siguiente manera: utilice una mezcla de agua y jabón suave yfrote ligeramente el área afectada. No utilice abrasivos fuertes ni productos que contengan cloro.

PARTES DE ALUMINIO – Las partes de aluminio de la puerta pueden limpiarse de la siguiente manera: utilice una mezcla de agua y jabón suave y froteligeramente el área afectada. Se pueden usar alcoholes minerales que no dañarán la pintura. Estos eliminarán muchos elementos como, por ejemplo, residuosde adhesivo. No utilice abrasivos fuertes ni productos que contengan cloro.

COMPONENTES DE LATÓN – Los accesorios de latón de todas las puertas pueden limpiarse de la siguiente manera: las manijas y los componentes de latón(excepto el engarce en las ventanas) están recubiertos con un acabado de uretano transparente que protege el latón de las manchas. Para limpiar el latón, esnecesario retirar este recubrimiento. Al hacerlo, un área mayor de latón quedará expuesta y sujeta a la intemperie. Utilice liquido para lustrar latón de altacalidad, de acuerdo con las instrucciones específicas de ese producto. Se puede volver a aplicar uretano transparente a la superficie limpia para proteger elacabado. NOTA: Mantenga todos los productos que contengan cloro alejados de los componentes de latón.

TERRAJAS CON ACABADO DE LATÓN – La terraja con acabado de latón puede limpiarse con una solución suave de agua y jabón.
