Landichos receive High Distinction
Award in IMAS
The Landichos once again received
prestigious distinction! Juan Rafael Landicho and Maria Bernadette
Landicho added up to their pile of awards received as they both bagged High Distinction Awards in IMAS.
IMAS is a world-class mathematics assessment test for Upper Primary, Middle Primary, and Lower Junior Secondary students. The competition aimed to develop a world-class assessment with international perspective measuring student performance in three cognitive
dimensions of knowing, applying, and reasoning; provide an opportunity for formative assessment of students that can contribute to their overall assessment and give students opportunity to discover talents in Mathematics. The IMAS is one of the four International Correspondence Competitions that students in the Philippines can join through the mediation of the Mathematics Trainers Guild.

SSIS takes part in the celebration
of the Batangas City Fiesta
The Second Term Test is just
around the corner. Thus, we highly
encourage the parents to settle the
outstanding balance of their children’s
tuition fee in the Accounting Office on or
before January 23, 2018.
SSIS Batangas actively showed its support to the celebration of the Batangas City Fiesta last January 16, 2018.
The school graced the event with its colorful float and dashing and gorgeous students. The flaot was made more attractive by the presence of the High School and Grade School Mr. and Ms. Intramurals 2017 winners. Claudine Simone Coley and John Raymond Valdez proudly represented the Grade School Department while Jewel Sheelah Delos Angeles and Jod Bermas exude with confidence as they represented the High School Department.
We are inviting the parents and guardians to
attend the Parenting Seminar on the 21st Century
Competencies on February 05 at the SSIS Main Hall. See
you there!
UPDATES
The Second Term will almost come to its end. Therefore, we would like to remind all the students to finish their Khan Academy targets for doing so will greatly help improve their performance in Mathematics.
During the First Term, 9 classes had 100% of students who successfully accomplished their Khan Academy targets. It has been observed that no one among those students failed in their Math subject. Thus, this is an indication that persevering in accomplishing tasks in Khan will boost the student’s academic
performance.

SET YOUR DATE WITH US ON VALENTINES DAY!
The High School Student Council will unleash the Black Panther on the big screen on
February 14, Valentines Day, 6:00 pm at the SM Batangas Cinema 1.
Black Panther is an American superhero film based on the Marvel Comics character of the
same name, produced by Marvel Studios, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
It is intended to be the eighteenth film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
The Student Council couldn’t have chosen a more fitting date for the block screening- the
day when love is being celebrated with the loved ones. The movie is recommended bonding
activity for parents and kids, classmates and friends, and teachers and staff.
For an affordable price of P350, the SSIS community can enjoy exclusive viewing while at
the same time helping the SC to raise funds for their upcoming projects.
For your ticket purchases and reservations, you may contact the High School Student
Council officers, their moderator, Miss Marriel De Castro, Class Advisers, and the Accounting
Office.
The SC is scouting for sponsors who will support this project. In return, the sponsors will have
a space for their name or company name, logos, and ads in the tarpaulin and will be advertised through out the event.

MEN AND WOMEN IN ACTION. The school
invites volunteer Doctors, Dentists, and Nurses to a
Medical Mission on February 06, Tuesday from
8:00 am- 12 nn at the school’s gym.
Donations of medicine and vitamins for
the young and adults are welcome. The
beneficiaries of this mission are some of the poor
families in Batangas City.
This event is the Stonyhurst Southville For
Others (SSFO) project of the parents and
guardians of our dear Valiant Knights. The
teachers and the students had their SSFO last
October and December respectively, and it is
now the parents’ turn to take the limelight.
Volunteerism is also a good way to teach children
the value of compassion.
BE EQUIPPED WITH THE 21st CENTURY
SKILLS. In this 21st century where technology
plays a vital role in reading, researching,
exploring, and learning in general, it is a must
that students and parents alike become tech-
savvy and skilled in anything that involves
gadgets and the internet. Moreover, the school
will conduct a parenting seminar which will
highlight the competencies and skills needed
for the 21st century.
The said seminar will be held at the
school’s Main Hall and will run from 8:00 am-
12:00 nn. The parents and guardians are invited
to grace the event with their presence.
IT’S TIME TO BE SPORTY. The school organizes a Sports Festival for the parents and guardians
of the Valiant Knights on February 07, 8:00 am- 5:00 pm. As part of the Foundation Week
Celebration, this activity aims to involve the parents and guardians in a fun-filled event which will
build camaraderie and harmonious relationship among everyone.
We invite interested participants to form a group composed of ten members and register.
The registration form will be available starting on Monday, January 22 at the Student Services
Office care of Miss Ella Balina. A registration fee of P2000 per team should be paid at the
Accounting Office. The registration fee will be used to cover the logistical needs of the said activity.

TO GOD BE THE GLORY. To honor the Lord and to give thanks to the bountiful blessings that the school received for the past 22 years, there will be a Holy Mass from 9:00-10:00 am at the school’s gym. Catholics are encouraged to join the celebration and to bring offerings.
FUN FRIDAY FAIR. Kids and teens will surely be
elated with the inflatables at the School Fair from
10:00 am- 5:00 pm. These attractions will be set up in
the gym and in the open area in front of the library.
You can pay the P300 entrance fee at the
Accounting Office.
A NIGHT OF MUSIC. On Thursday evening, the high school students will convene to celebrate music and lyrics and to support the Student Council in its fund raising initiative.
Each ticket to the festival costs P350. As the high school students will be dismissed at 4:00
pm, they may choose to bring their civilian attire and change in school, or they can go home to change and freshen up then be back in school at 6:00 pm.
The HS “Knight” will run from 6:00 pm- 9:00 pm. Parents will have to make arrangements on how to fetch their kids after the said event.
TEEMING WITH TALENTS. SSIS is a home to a multitude of talented students. Thus, the school invites the students to showcase their exceptional talents in the annual VK GOT TALENT.
This year’s VK Got Talent has four categories: Pre-School-Grade 2, Grades 3-6, Grades 7-10, and Grades 11-12. Moreover, one grand winner will be chosen in each category.
The VK Got Talent will be held at the SSIS Gym on February 08, 1:00 - 4:00 pm.
Interested participants must secure and accomplish registration forms. The registration forms will be available at the Student Services Office starting on January 22.
The FAMILY MOVIE KNIGHT is the highlight of the foundation anniversary celebration. This is to recognize the family as the basic institution and strong foundation that catapulted SSIS to greater heights. Without these families who have entrusted their children to the school, there will be no yestearyesrs to look back to. The idea is to bring together the families in one Outdoor Grand Picnic and Film Viewing at the Football Field.
Before the movie showing, there will be performances from the winners of the VK Got Talent. Please be reminded of the following:
1. Please bring your own mats/blankets and picnic food. Do not bring tall chairs as you may block the view of the
people at the back. 2. Setting up at the picnic site will be on a first-come first-served basis. You may choose the area where you will set
up your mats. 3. Bring umbrellas, jackets, and caps in case it will rain.
4. The Family Movie Knight will start at 6:00PM.

OF THE WEEK
A test is a method for a teacher to gauge what her students know
(and need to know), but tests aren't just for the teachers. By taking tests,
children learn solid study skills, learn from errors, and learn how to handle
the unknown (like pop quizzes) in an academic setting. Through practice
and preparation, children will feel equipped and ready to handle tests --
without feeling the need to cheat. They will also be less afraid of failure or
mistakes because they'll rely on their own abilities and put in their best
efforts.
Try these test taking strategies for kids to smoothen the transition
between learning and recall, schoolwork, and test day. Soon enough,
your child will become a master of test taking.
1. Do talk to your child about testing. It's helpful for children to
understand why schools give tests and to know the different kinds
of tests they will take.
2. Do encourage your child. Praise her for the things that he or she
does well. If your child feels good about himself or herself, he or
she will do her best on a test. Children who are afraid of failing
are more likely to become anxious when taking tests and more
likely to make mistakes.
3. Do make sure that your child attends school regularly.
Remember, tests reflect children's overall achievement. The more
effort and energy your child puts into learning, the more likely it is
that he or she will do well on tests.
4. Don't place so much emphasis on your child's test scores that you
lose sight of her well being. Too much pressure can affect his or
her test performance. In addition, he or she may come to think
that you will only love him or her if he or she does well on tests.
5. Do help your child avoid test anxiety. It's good for your child to be
concerned about taking a test. It's not good for him to develop
"test anxiety." Test anxiety is worrying too much about doing well
on a test. It can mean disaster for your child. Students with test
anxiety can worry about success in school and about their future
success. They can become very self-critical and lose confidence
in their abilities. Instead of feeling challenged by the prospect of
success, they become afraid of failure.
After the test, your child can learn a great deal from reviewing a
graded exam paper. Reviewing will show him or her where he or she had
difficulty and, perhaps, why. This is especially important for classes in
which the material builds from one section to the next.
