President’s Report:

Carl announced that he was appointed by President Saatkamp to serve on a working

committee established to assist in the planning of activities and operations at Stockton’s

new Island Campus in Atlantic City (former Showboat Casino and Hotel property). Their

first meeting was on January 6th, 2015 from 11:00 am – 1:00 pm. Carl is currently

working on developing a survey to assess what students will need on this campus. He

said that the committee is scheduled to meet again on January 30th, 2015.

Carl and the Parking committee met on January 16th. He gave a brief update about the

plans for parking; Plans for Parking Lot 0 are currently being reviewed by the Pinelands

Commission. Facilities Planning and Construction expects to complete construction of

Lot 0 by fall 2015. Parking Lot 0 will result in the net addition of approximately 125

spaces. The Pinelands Commission is also reviewing plans to add 40 spaces along the

Fire Lane behind Housing 2. The recommendation to move freshmen residential from

Lot 7 to the North lot was forwarded to President Saatkamp. He accepted the

recommendation, so this move will take effect in fall 2015. Facilities planning and

Construction will not start the New Classroom Building & USC2 construction until

November 2015; therefore, all parking lots will be available at the beginning of the 2015

fall semester.

Carl has reached out to an organization called the College and University Food Bank

Alliance, so he will be working with Claire Cady and Jenna Klaus, to further develop an

assessment of the need at Stockton, among other things. As of now he has a six question

assessment developed. Carl is also working with Chartwells to create an incentive for

students to take the survey. He will also be working with Jason Babin, Assistant Director

of Student Rights & Responsibilities, to make this food bank a reality at Stockton.

Carl also reported that the Students Helping Students Mentor Program launched at the

MLK Day of Service was a success! They had 47 students from Atlantic City high school

and 22 Stockton students come and participate. Everyone had a great time. The mentors

and mentees are working on planning their own day of service activity for some time in

March, so he encouraged senators and students to become involved in this project.

He concluded by reminding senators that the Student Government Association Taskforce

will begin meeting again, every Tuesday evening from 8:00 pm – 10:00 pm in F – 225, to

talk more about how we can structure this government to better serve the students at

Stockton. The task force is currently focusing their discussion on the Inter Club Council

Meetings. He also encouraged senators and students to come to the next SGA task force

meeting if they are interested in taking part in the conversation.

Academic Affairs:

Nick yielded the floor to Mike. He talked about a survey regarding the CAPP system, and

your preceptor. They want to see how effective meeting with their preceptor is and how

affective the CAPP system is. They want to show students how the system works as well

as possibly work on improving the system. Mike also updated everyone on what

constitution changes he has been working on. He said that at the next committee meeting

they will be looking at new attendance policies, how the chairs on the senate are elected

and possibly having the students electing these positions, as opposed to the vice president

and the president appointing them. They will also be working on petition time-line

changes. He yielded the floor back to Nick.

Nick said that they are also looking into adding on a new chair executive cabinet position;

judiciary board committee chair. This committee will work on the constitution, they will

also work on conflict resolution among the senators. The details of this are still to be

worked out.

Nick then announced that the reading days are now tentatively scheduled to happen on

December 11th, 2015 for the fall semester and May 2, 2016 for the spring semester. The

finals week is now dedicated to one week, instead of professors having exams when they

choose. Thus this will make finials week much easier on students, and they will be more

prepared. Nick yielded the floor back to Carl.

Government Affairs:

Maryam announced that she has been working on plans for Higher Education week. This

April they will be sending out an itinerary for that week of the events that they will be

having, such as game day, called Family Feud, and an event titled Careers and Higher

Education to talk about the possible career paths that students may be interested in. She

also announced that they will be having another event called Polishing Your Degree that

will give students insights about minors that will enhance the status of their degree. She

also announced that Victoria and Brad will be taking over Maurice’s duty in working with

the campus police.

She yielded the floor to Maurice. Maurice announced that they will be having a program

on Police brutality and building better connections with the campus as a whole with the

campus police and he will also be working with the sustainability trust. Maurice yielded

the floor back to Carl.

Public Relations:

Lauren announced that the Senate Informer will be ready by tomorrow. It will be 4 pages

this time instead of the two in the previous year. The Informer will outline all of senate’s

accomplishments, what they have been working on, and who is in charge of senate.

She went on to say that we will be collaborating to put on the Queen of Heart Dance on

February 10, 2015 from 8:00-11:00PM, in the Event Room. They’ll be accepting

donations for the Go Red for Woman Foundation. This is a free event but they are

looking for donations to go to that cause.

She also said that Sweets for your Suggestions is starting this semester, with Student

Affairs. The dates are February 18, 2015, March 25, 2015, and April 29, 2015, from 6:00-

8:00PM in G-wing. This is a free bake sale, so students can come out with any

suggestions that they have for the school and they will receive a free baked good in

return.

The Students Helping Students Mentor Program went very well, with a lot of senators

who came out. This is a great opportunity to mentor, so if you or anyone you know are

interested in taking part in this mentor program, please let the senators know.

She announced that the spring election time-line has been confirmed and the petition has

been updated. March 3rd, 4th, 5th will be the interest meetings, and April 14th and April

16th will be the online voting through the Go Portal.

She concluded by saying that they are doing Campus Center Collaborations; one is Go

Red for Woman Quizzo event on February 9th, 2015 at 9:30PM. Senate will be

sponsoring one round of Quizzo. Also they will be doing T-shirt decorating on March

30th at 8:00PM. Lastly, they are looking into keeping fund raisers at the basketball games,

to continue to raise money for the Students Helping Students foundation scholarships.

She yielded the floor back to Carl.

Student Affairs Committee:

Murphy announced that there will be transportation to and from Shop Rite, that will be

available Monday through Thursday at certain times, and there is an attachment in the

email that was sent out, listing all of the times this shuttle will be running. The shuttle

will depart from the Campus Center and you would be picked back up from the Ace

Hardware Store on Pitney road. She went on to say that telecommunications is now

supporting a lot more devices, such as the X-box 360, the Wi and Apple TV and TVoo.

The chart on what is supported, and not yet supported is listed in an email that was sent

out to residential students. She also welcomed a new senator, Katelynn Torcato, and said

that she will be working with Plant Management and Telecommunications, alongside

Cristian and Marina. Marina met with Tom O’Donnell to discuss some of the changes to

Veteran Park such as lights for the flags, and most likely solar panel energy ran. The

Student Affairs Committee has also been working on other improvements that they will

be working on such as a day where they collect toxic waste that should be disposed of

properly, such as batteries, laptops, and phones. They will be working with other

organizations to collect some of these things, from not only residential students, but also

non-residential students and faculty.

She also said that she met with Lieutenant Parker, acting chief, and they discussed some

of the updates, such as some commuter students were receiving parking citations in North

Lot for being parked there past 10:00PM. They are looking into extending the time frame

that commuter students are able to park in North Lot, so that they can have enough time

to do what they need on campus until campus closes. She also announced that Ar-

Rasheed, Katelynn, and Marina are going to be working with Plant Management to get

toilet seat covers for the bathrooms.

Murphy yielded the floor to Ar-Rasheed. He announced that they will also be looking

into meal plans and pricing, and what constitutes as a meal plan, so that the meal plans

are based more upon what students would like to eat opposed to what they are told they

may count as a meal. He yielded the floor to Murphy, and Murphy yielded the floor back

to Carl.

Finance Committee:

Kiyle announced that there are seven items for supplemental. Kiyle let the senators know

that if there were any further questions on the information that is attached to the consent

agenda to ask, and it will be removed from the consent agenda, so they can talk about it

after the consent agenda. Three supplementals were removed from the consent agenda to

be voted on separately. Kiyle also reported that the account balance as of January 20,

Agenda/Business:

Nick is working with the SGA task force in order to see what the clubs want and how we

can better represent the students and organization more.

Mike has finalized the survey about the CAPP and evaluation of preceptors. We have

sent the email out to the student body so make sure you take the survey!

Mike is also looking into getting a layout of courses from academic advising for double

majors and for concentrations. As of now, there are layouts for majors, but not for

double majors or concentrations. We are also looking to have double majors put on the

CAPP “What-If Analysis” as it is not there right now. We are hoping this will give

students a better understanding of the classes they need to take.

Victoria is looking into an issue with the library and renting out books. As of now

students need to pay $45 to replace a book if lost, but students have complained about

this policy. Students can buy a brand new book, with the same ISBN, meaning it is the

same book, for $5. We are seeing if students can replace the books if lost, rather than pay

a high amount.

Agenda/Business:

The Government Affairs committee has been working on their goal to raise awareness

about the US long-term national debt, through the Up to Us campaign. The committee

discussed the plan for the month of February and how execution of the plans will occur.

February 5th will be the Life-size Monopoly, February 10th Democracy Café with RSC

Service Learning, and final the 12th will be My Two Cents Day. The committee and

Student Senate as a whole are working alongside the Up to Us team to ensure Stockton’s

national recognition in this campaign. The Government Affairs committee advised the

team on how to properly address this issue with our NJ legislators. The Up to Us team

will visit Congressman Lobiondo in Washington DC on the 13th, and Senator Booker’s

aide Ms. Scudder will visit the team on campus Tuesday the 17th. Stockton currently has

750+ Facebook pledge takers. Maryam is planning on having the Higher Education week

this April with the help of the committee. Brad & Victoria have been hard at work 99%

of their time with Up to Us. Maurice has been a huge support to the team even though he

is not a core Up to Us team member, extended teammates are just as crucial to the

success of Up to Us. Angelo will be reporting the results of Up to Us to the Stockton

community when he finds out on February 28th.

The committee did not meet due to the snow, and did not reschedule a meeting. The

committee has been hard at work wrapping up the Up to Us campaign. The committee

would like to thank all those who supported the campaign and helped Stockton reach this

huge impact in such a short amount of time.

Agenda/ Business:

Another basketball fundraiser was held on February 4th, with about sixty dollars raised,

bringing the total to seven hundred dollars total. The bulletin board in G-wing has been

updated with our logos, promotions and events. The Informer will be distributed to the

Resource Room, Student Development, Bursars Office, and other offices.

The Queen of Hearts Dance on February 10th was a success with around 150 people in

attendance and fifty dollars raised for American Heart Association and Go Red for

Women.

Our first Sweets for your Suggestions tabling started on February 18th and was also a

successful event. Many students brought concerns to the Student Affairs Committee and

Public Relations assisted with setting up the table.

The quizzo collaboration with Campus Center went well, with many students in

attendance to educate about Go Red for Women. Our next event collaboration with

Campus Center is Make Your Own t-shirt on March 30th. Ideas are being considered to

tie in Relay for Life, and have t-shirt decorating for teams at the event. The next Students

Helping Students event is February 26th at the career fair. It will be another time for the

mentor and mentee to meet and walk around the career fair, answer questions and get to

know each other.

Public Relations is working on the PowerPoint to show at the interest meeting March 3rd.

Another large fundraiser may possibly be planned to go towards Foundation

Scholarships, to help reach the goal of a one thousand dollar donation.

Ar-Rasheed is working with the Wellness Center and with Marina, Katelynn and Plant

Management in order to determine the possibility of providing toilet seat covers in the

restrooms.

Marina and Katelynn are reaching out to remove the flower pot currently in front of the

American flag and possibly providing either a drop box for batteries or an event for

common items that are potentially dangerous to the environment in order to dispose of

them properly.

Cristian has been meeting with Lonnie Folks in order to discuss rotating out old or

damaged gym equipment. He is also looking to table with the telecommunications

department in order for them to be available to students and address some of the Wi-Fi

issues directly.

Murphy worked with Katelynn in order to create a survey about the Atlantic City campus

to be released to the students shortly. Murphy also met with Denise O’Neill to discuss the

gender inclusive housing provided to incoming freshman and broken washers and dryers.

A drafted list of rules for the laundry facilities made by Murphy was sent to Timothy

James and is in the review process by RHA and housing staff.

With the help of the Public Relations Committee, Student Affairs successfully had the

first “Sweets for your Suggestions” tabling in G-wing and received lots of feedback from

students. These complaints and complements will be reviewed and distributed to the

appropriate members of the Student Senate in order to address each of them.

Haley has received complaints about the size of the veterans lounge. According to the

students they feel like the lounge does not match the amount of veterans that attend the

school. Haley has gone around to the student body and ask them for their opinion/support

on the issue and all have agreed. Therefor she is starting a committee with the help of

Tom O'Donnell, to relocate and/or expand the lounge.
