Welcome Remarks
• A micro-economist with interests in poverty, health and sustainability. His
team works on cross-sectoral SDG analysis, and ways to enhance the impact
of science, technology and innovation on the SDGs. They provide the UN
with support for the Global Sustainable Development Report (GSDR) and
the Technology Facilitation Mechanism (TFM).
• Prior to this, he helped write UNDP’s Human Development Report and,
before that, led its global MDG policy work.
• Shantanu began his career in India. He earned a PhD in Economics from
Princeton University, and holds advanced degrees in Public Policy and
Physics.
Mr. Shantanu Mukherjee - Chief, Integrated Policy Analysis Branch, Division for Sustainable Development Goals
• Has served as Ambassador, Permanent Representative to the United Nations in New York
since September 2018.
• From 2013 - 2018, served as the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and
before that as Under Secretary of State, Political Director.
• From 2007 - 2012, served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Latvia to
the USA and non-resident Ambassador to the United Mexican States.
• From 2000 - 2006, was Advisor on Foreign Affairs to the President of Latvia, and from
2006 - 2007, Chief of Staff at the President’s Chancery.
• Graduated from the Faculty of Oriental Studies at Saint Petersburg State University in
1994, and studied Chinese at the Beijing Foreign Languages Institute from 1990 –
1991. He later studied at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, and Foreign
Service Programme at Oxford University.

H.E. Mr. Mohammad Koba - Ambassador and Permanent Representativeof Indonesia
• Mohammad Kurniadi Koba has served as Charge d’Affaires of the Permanent Mission
of the Republic Indonesia to the United-Nations in New York since February 2021.
• Prior to his current role, he was the Director of the General Affairs Bureau of the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Indonesia. He was also assigned at the Permanent
Mission of the Republic of Indonesia to the UN in Geneva between 2008-2012.
• Ambassador Koba holds a Master’s degree in European Integration and Development
from Vrije Universiteit in Brussels and a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations
from Airlangga University, Indonesia.

• Initiated by United Nations Department for Economic and Social Affairs in collaboration with Global Innovation Exchange at Results for Development
• Seeks innovations developed or adapted to address COVID-19-associated disruptions that will remain relevant beyond pandemic to help accelerate progress towards one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)
• 4 May: Virtual Exhibition: Guided tour-Innovation exhibit

• STI Forum in entirely virtual format• Selected number of representatives will be able to make interventions and
access virtual platform

Agenda
• How can science, technology and innovations support a sustainable and resilient recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic?
• How should the STI Forum 2021 address those issues?
Proposed guiding questions:

• Was President of FIOCRUZ from 2009- 2016, leading scientific achievements in biomedical
sciences, the generation of scientific and technological knowledge, and the promotion of
health and social development.
• Founded and directed the “Casa de Oswaldo Cruz”, a FIOCRUZ Institute dedicated to the
sociology and history of science and health.
• Served as a member of the National Health Council’s Science and Technology Intersectoral
Commission. As President of the Brazilian Association of Collective Health, he chaired the 11th
World Congress on Public Health.
• In cooperation with UNDESA, he headed FIOCRUZ’s efforts in organizing the 1st International
Consultation on Science, Technology and Innovation in the implementation of the 2030 Agenda
and its health-related goals in 2017.

Key Themes for the 2021 STI Forum
• Ms. Galambos is a Focal Point for the Science Policy Interface (SPI) Platform with the
Major Group for Children and Youth and a civil engineer based in Colorado, USA.
• She graduated in December 2019 from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis
Obispo (Cal Poly) with a BS degree in Civil Engineering and a minor in Ethics, Public Policy,
Science and Technology.
• During her time at Cal Poly, she was involved with Engineers Without Borders, where she
first became interested in the complexities surrounding sustainable development.
• She has been involved with the MGCY since 2018 and previously contributed to the SPI
Platform as a Technology Focal Point from 2019 to 2020. Marta's professional experience
includes work in water resources and civil engineering in both the private and public
sectors.

• Head of Sustainability Partnerships, Scouting & Ventures, at Novozymes, the world’s leading
industrial biotechnology company.
• Heads the governance and stakeholder relationships of HelloScience and supports Investment
due diligence and strategic partnership development and communications.
• Chair of the Environment and Energy Commission of the International Chamber of
Commerce, and co-chair of the Environment Committee of the United States Council for
International Business.
• Has worked at McGill University, Canada, and has guest lectured at Roskilde University,
Denmark. Mr. Perrrettson also works with the United Nations Foundation, New York, and
Business fights Poverty, London.

• Senior Vice President at AECOM, based in Salt Lake City, UT. Previously, was a Vice
President at Parsons Brinckerhoff (WSP).
• Dr. K.N. Gunalan has been active in WFEO’s Anti-Corruption Committee serving as its Vice
Chair for North America. Had leadership roles at ASCE for many years and served as a
governor for the Geo-Institute.
• He has presented on several topics around the world including UN SDG’s, Future World
Vision, Engineering the Future, Sustainability & Resilience, Code of Ethics etc. Served as
the chair of ASCE’s 2014 Global Engineering Conference in Panama City, Panama, in
celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Panama Canal.
